DS called 111 for cracked tooth, won't help?

He doesn't have a dentist as we moved and haven't found an NHS dentist available.

Weeks ago he cracked his tooth. He says it is cracked in half.

He wouldn't ring to get any help but its hurting him a lot.

He finally rang 111 today and they said because there is no bleeding its not an emergency.

What is he supposed to do? It obviously needs extracting.

He is autistic and really scared of the dentist so hid it for a while (he is 21)
He lost his job a couple of months ago too so that is an added issue as I don't think he is covered for NHS treatment? Im not sure how it works.

Can anyone help pls?

I think the issue is that if the tooth cracked “weeks ago” then it would be assumed that it is not an emergency at the present time. He’s managed for “weeks” already so presumably he can continue to manage until he can see a regular dentist, not an emergency one.

Its been getting worse and worse though.

He has a fear of the dentist so hid it but he isn't sleeping and eating now. He's just having a lot of soup

Just a little update that he has an appointment tomorrow through the NHS dental emergency thingy.

Not sure how much it is going to be but I have my klarna card to split the payment in 3.

Am going to try and call round as many dentists as we can today to try and get registered and he is also going to call UC to get registered with them but maybe next week if he has an extraction (I think they will as its completely split. I don't think they can save it) to give him a few days to recover.

Thankyou, yes I have that ready to pay.

He is very nervous.

I am nervous for him as I had a back tooth removed in my 20s and it was horrific, the dentist had her knee on my chest for leverage.

Turns out my bottom molar had 4 roots and so was extremely embedded. I hope that isn't a nice little genetic present I have passed down 😒

Fingers crossed @Bibboo! I too have had a difficult extraction- but I’ve also had two very straightforward ones so let’s hope your DS has one of those! 🤞

As he doesn’t have an NHS dentist he will just have to pay to be seen privately somewhere (most dentist are always taking on privately, just not NHS). It’s rubbish but part and parcel of moving and losing your dentist these days.

You don't though, it's not like a GP. Unless that's changed? Some people travel for hours to see the dentist they're registered with.
