How much to spend on trainers for DD starting year 7

DD is starting secondary school, she has size 7 feet and she wants a pair of nikes that are very expensive for sports What budget would you set considering she's an adult size and any suggestions for trainers please ?

No they’re not. Nike adult men’s start from around £55, and you can often get them a fair bit less with offers/sales. They sometimes send out £20 off a £60 spend code for example.

I have a teen with size 10 feet. I just buy him £40 Adidas trainers. If he wanted specific expensive trainers they they would be a christmas or birthday gift.

Year 7 PE is unlikely to be high impact endurance sports so they don't need the sort of training shoes you wear for running marathons. A decent pair of non-fashion trainers should be fine.

By fashion trainers I mean shoes that look like trainers but aren't meant for sports.

As long as they are Nike or Adidas nothing else seems to matter in year 7! They don’t seem to be that in to fashion yet, that as long as it is an ok brand they won’t get teased!

My daughter had the same trainers all the way through year 7 for PE and they were fine and not wrecked (worn out of school too). She is active and did a few clubs in them as well.

I bought bog standard nike mesh running shoe - save the air force 1s etc for home. Reason being - their feet grow super quick and PE bags get lost/stolen and everyones stuff looks identical. Even if you label things - they still disappear never to be seen again

Thanks all, I was a bit lost on what to get. I've seen some expensive trainers which are far too much for just PE. I'll have a look

Got my DD 2x pairs of Nike rnr v5 for £65 each in sports direct. One in silver/white for home & PE and one plain black for actual school shoes.

She is a size 7 too so paying adult trainer prices hurts! Older DD and myself are only a size 5 so can fit junior trainers which are a bit cheaper

Op id look on vinted etc. Expensive trainers im sure will be lost or stolen.

My two are happy with their general use sports trainers from Decathlon. For DS1, fitting the width comfortably is his priority.

We keep the quality running shoes at home.

The annoying thing is having to buy sturdy men's school shoes. Fancy schmanzy office shoes are not designed for lugging heavy rucksacks over mixed ground in all weathers to get to the bus stop, and no where to store shoes for swapping.

Oh and buying football boots for a few weeks use per year before they're grown out of. Cheap Decathlons to the rescue again.

At my kids school they all wear Nike airforce/airforce 1s as their school shoes- before they started I looked at shoes to see what type people wore and wasn’t familiar with these so assumed they were mandatory from the uniform shop as that’s how many people had them! They are black and polishable which meets the criteria the school set.

I have found some in good condition in Vinted in the past, but by the time my kids reached year 9 their feet have stopped growing so only replacing if they get completely work out.

for me I think it is worth spending the money £100+ on something that they wear every day if they are to be school shoes not just PE shoes as the cost per wear is then reasonable, and I never had the cool labels when I was growing up so happy that I am able to do this for my kids.

for PE trainers I’d prob go on vinted to get a deal or sports direct for a cheaper branded pair (my Dd now just wears her Nike school shoes for PE so we have a saving there now!)

Same. For school they have Decathlon.., no drama if they get lost.

I’ve always bought Adidas Galaxy 7s as PE trainers. They’re about £35 on the adidas site now. The branding makes them socially acceptable. I think the price is reasonable.

My other tip would be to buy a school bag big enough to fit the PE kit along with everything else. Teach them to role their PE kit up tightly and pack it between the trainers. Then they don’t have. PE bag to lose! (No PE kit list yet - going into Y10 and 6th form!)

If she can wear the same trainers for non PE school days, then spend what you want, within the parameters stated by the school( eg plain black).
But if she has to take in extra trainers on PE days, then go for cheapest possible. They are very likely to get lost or stolen. Make sure they have her name in permanent ink on the inside.
Sports Direct or M&M or JD Sports all have good offers on trainers. Your main problem is going to be finding out what exactly is acceptable to the school eg colour/logo/does a logo the same colour as the shoe count as a logo. If you can find someone whose DC already go there, speak to them, don’t just rely on the website.
