Ds asking about sats dont want him upset.

Ds just finished year 6 at the end of their leavers assembly. He spoke about the sats he told parents their had been some sort of error and parents would be able to collect tjem from the school in August on a certain day. He also said how fantastic they had done as a whole they got 90% which is one of the best the school has had.

Ds felt happy about that. But i didn't collect his results the reason being is because hes working at year 1 level and I didn't want him upset when he realised his score would have been very low. But hes asked me a few times about getting them. Maybe it wasn't the best idea not to get them. But i was trying to protect him.

I'm not sure if i should try and get them or not would I be able to even if I didn't go on the day? I think i probably can because it was after the children broke up from school and people could have already booked holidays etc

I would tell him something like you are proud of how he has developed his skills in year 6 and it was decided that his sats results weren't needed because of where he is going to school. I don't think a child working at year one level would have a hope of starting the year 6 sats, so either he knows he failed spectacularly because he was given the papers and couldn't even attempt them, or he was given something else to do.

He doesn’t need a score. They aren’t actually important in any way. The only thing it could do in your situation is cause upset but the outcome of SATs is of no consequence to your child, only the school. If he asks just deflect, say you haven’t had the results but the school was really happy with how hard everyone had tried.
I don’t know what I got in my SATS and never cared (and I was very academic). It’s not affected me in life at all so I don’t think it’s at all necessary to get the results.
Children who are already in specialist are unlikely to have sat them (most SEN schools don’t do them, including the ones with pupils meeting ARE) and those moving to a specialist setting in Y7 are going to have a mixed experience. I know of children who walked out in the middle of the test because it was all too much for them, so your child has coped well if he sat through them. I doubt it will come up in conversation at all in Y7.

@Autismds2098 How can his reading have been tested via sats if he had a 1-2-1 reading things out to him? What about comprehension of the maths questions ? I didn’t think schools could do this.

If, as seems likely, it turns out that your DS was given an alternative test rather than actual SATS, I think I would frame it as, "[Name of SEN school] does not ask for SATS results, as it doesn't think that's the best way of finding out what children are good at. So [name of teacher] gave you a different test. [Name of teacher] was happy with how you did at the test."
