Morning All! What's everyone up to today?

I'm just finishing my first cuppa of the day, in my conservatory spot. Boy cat's bird watching in the window (when is he not!?) and girl's gone back to bed - probably in with dd2. If ever we can't find her, she's in dd2's bed!

I've had a tidy round in the kitchen, put a few pots to soak, and put the washer on, before sitting down with my tea. The floors down here could do with a hoover and mop, but that's an after tea job, I think.

Today will probably be quite a steady and chill one here - I've hurt my right shoulder somehow. Probably trying to rid the strip of ground of allllll the bindweed. So no digging or decorating for me today 😥. Very frustrating when there's so much to do both in & out! I'll have a steady potter in the garden at the not so tough bits - deadheading my plants & cutting new growth off the brambles. Maybe next year though, I'll let them grow & keep them well trimmed?

I'll spend the rest of the day between reading and crochet, before helping dd2 cook tea.

I have no idea what the girls are up to today - dd1's become fully invested in The Rookie (dd2's favourite), so probably watch some more of that together!

Pasta bake for tea, then I'll see if anyone fancies a couple of rounds of one of my board games. The answer will be no - it always is - but I try anyway. I'll moan at them for saying no for a bit, then carry on my book. I tell a lie, I might actually start something new, it's boring me a bit.

What about you lot? 🙂

Been up since 6.30, took DD at 7am to her bus for work. Came back to walked the dogs, let the rabbit out in the kitchen to run around. Cleaned him out, sat down had a cuppa. Done a bit of cleaning and washing up. Got to have a bath in a bit, having a wedding to go to later.

Simonjt · 25/07/2026 10:04

Careful of your shoulder, they can be tricky when injured.

Our two are home from their holiday with grandma this afternoon, I can’t wait to see them we’ve missed them so much. They’ve had a very busy week so we’ll have a quiet day at home.

Have a nice saturday.

gingercat02 · 25/07/2026 10:05

Morning all, just finishing my breakfast.

DS is 18 on Tuesday so DH and I have jobs to do, cake, balloons, last minute bits and bobs.
I have been summoned by my mum, likely for something birthday related.

Its VERY windy here, so not likely to be outside much, it is also rumoured it might rain!

I have a courgette glut so need to do something with them and get them frozen.

Need to catch up with F1 qualifying at some point.
No thoughts on tea or evening plans yet. All caught up on housework stuff, so that's nice.

Good morning @lucysmam and everyone. We went to see the opera 'Carmen' at the theatre last night and got back late, and then needed some winding down time, so I was late to bed and late to rise this morning. We really enjoyed it - both of us! I wasn't sure it was Mr Dilemma's kind of thing, but he was as enthralled as I was. To be fair, it is known as an 'entry-level' opera, with some cracking tunes, but I love classical (and other) music and he's more of a Pet Shop Boys kind of man.

I bought a dehydrator a week or so ago and started using it yesterday, so I have some rhubarb to pack away and I will have some courgette chunks later today. I'm thinking about going up to the field at the side of our house where our guerrilla orchard is (sadly bereft of apples this year) to pick some blackberries if I can find any. I'm pretty sure there are some. And we have been offered plums and apples from my daughter's neighbour's very productive garden, in exchange for some jam or a pie, so I think I will see if he has any plums. Ours aren't ripe yet but they are always very late. Mr Dilemma cut our celery yesterday as it was going over, so I have some of that to dehydrate or freeze as well. I already have some in the freezer so I think I will try dehydrating it this time.

Mr Dilemma has just told me he is 'going planing', by which he means he is going to have a go at planing the doors of the cupboard we are doing up. He bought us (himself) a new electric plans but he's not known for his woodworking skills so I hope it goes well. At present the doors are slightly too big and don't close, which I think is due to us picking out one or both of the wrong set of doors when we picked up the cupboard. It was one of two which had had their doors taken off and the doors were just in a heap of other bits of wood, so understandable I think.

No other plans for today. I expect I will be called upon to help lift the doors into place when they are done.

Have a nice day everybody, or at least the best day you can.

Good morning everyone, it’s a busy weekend for us again this weekend. It was Dd’s birthday on Monday and she turned 12 so last night she had a birthday sleepover with her dance friends - they have stayed awake literally all night so they’re struggling a bit now! One has been picked up, 4 are still here but due to leave in the next half hour or so. I’ll then send dd12(!) and my niece13 (who is part of the dance group) up to bed to sleep for a couple of hours, tidy up the sleepover carnage the nip into town to get my nails done and check in for our holiday to Salou in a few weeks and choose our in flight meals. Dh is off out on his motorbike for a few hours and dd18 is working 12-5pm.

Then, it is my ds’ birthday today - he turns 25 - so this afternoon my dsis will pick up the 2 younger girls for the night and me, dh, dd18, ds25, his boyfriend and my younger dsis and BIL (who are still staying with us) are off for a bottomless brunch at 6pm then staying out for drinks later. I’m shattered already after no sleep with the girls all night last night. Oh well, I’m sure the sugar in the cocktails will keep me going!

Good morning lucysmam and others. I've had two coffees then a tea and slice of toast. I went to Tesco to get supplies and spent more than usual. My local aldi is having a refit. Since my return, I've had another cuppa and a pancake with jam.
Later dgs2 is coming for a sleepover hence the over spending at tesco. The day will depend on his wishes. Have a good day all

lucysmam · 25/07/2026 10:38

Thanks @Simonjt , if it carries on past the weekend, I'll make an appointment with my GP. I hope the kids have had an amazing holiday!

Morning @lucysmam. That sounds like a lovely relaxing day.

DCat woke me at 4.45 for breakfast. Cuddled him until 6.15 when he made it clear that everything would get pawed off my nightstand if I didn't feed him. I got up, fed him and he sniffed the food and slid off through his cat flap. So I went back to bed. Up again at 8am, coffee in garden with DH on the swing, then picked some blackberries that grow over the fence from the field behind. DCat helped by swiping at brambles.

DH and I then went for a walk to pick more blackberries. Now we have a couple of kilos and I'm looking up bramble jelly and blackberry fool recipes which will keep me busy. Also have a lot of ironing to do as I am off tomorrow, working away from home for a week.

Usually have a Zoom call quiz with adult DC but one is playing a gig tonight and the other is on holiday with his partner, so just DH, DCat and me tonight. Will probably binge watch the last few episodes of Ann Droid.

Where are you? I'd love a bit of wind and rain. It was scorching even at 8am outside today. (outskirts of South London)

Happyhope · 25/07/2026 10:49

Im doing nothing all day no chores to do nowhere to go blissfull.
Chill with my laptop all day drink coffee and repeat.
Watch list is murder she wrote till about 6pm, then catch up with pay back the series, then binge watch the whole series of the prosecutors proposal.
And ham toastie for lunch.

Rainbow1235 · 25/07/2026 10:52

Morning lucysmam and to u all . Hope your pain eases soon for u . Today after a busy week is chilling with my book I’ve cleaned up sorted washing so can chill without feeling guilty. Have a great and safe day all 🫶

PermanentTemporary · 25/07/2026 10:54

Good morning! Another hot one today. We’ll be watching the skies this evening because it’s just possible there will be a rain shower tomorrow.

We’re taking dp’s mum (80s) to her aunt’s 105th birthday tea, and then going on to visit Ds’s girlfriends parents as they happen to live in the same town. So quite a lot today.

HelpMeGetThrough · 25/07/2026 11:00

Im cleaning the carpet in the lounge. Had a drama on Thursday morning with a mug of fresh coffee. My fingers gave out and I dropped the cup. The joys of Rheumatoid Arthritis.

Fresh, strong, strength 5 coffee on a beige carpet has made a mess and today is the only chance I’ve had to do it.

Decided we are having a new lounge/dining room carpet, but I can’t live with the stain, so the Vax is out and doing it’s worst.

This afternoon will be much codeine and a few beers in the garden. My poor hands and wrists are swelling up already.

Topsy44 · 25/07/2026 11:04

Not planning to do very much today but potter about, it’s been a busy week at work and v glad of some downtime. DD14 seems content to do the same and we’re off out all day tomorrow with friends.

I do however need to do some housework as house is looking neglected at the mo (I just don’t seem to have any energy in the heat!) and might try and do a bit of tidying up in the front garden. Have to pace myself though as last weekend I did a few hours in the back garden and it took me until Wed to feel normal again🙂.

Hope all have good Saturdays.

Giggorata · 25/07/2026 11:15

Good morning lucysmam and all. Wishing you all a great Saturday.

DH and I are finishing off our tea and coffee, then we are going to do various chores. Mine will include doing the bathroom, which involves cleaning behind the bath and hoping there are no spiders. It is at times like this that I really regret getting a free standing bath!
Later, I am meeting up with friends. Cake and cava and a good catch up, as we've all had busy summers and been away and that.

Rain is forecast, but I don't think it will be enough for the pots and hanging baskets, especially as I forgot to do them last night…

gingercat02 · 25/07/2026 11:26

@CypressMoonNE coast near Newcastle, it's a bit miserable

Taytocrisps · 25/07/2026 11:35

Morning everyone. I had a lovely long sleep and woke around 9. It really is such a treat not having to get up early at weekends and drop DD to work. I'm going to get breakfast shortly and do up a meal plan/shopping list for the week.

DCats are having a nap upstairs and DD stayed over with her boyfriend last night.

I met up with two old school friends yesterday. It was so lovely to see them and catch up on their news. Meeting them has given me such a lift - I keep replaying bits of our conversation in my head. We're in our 50s now, but in my head we're still 13.

The good weather has gone and we're back to grey skies today. I don't mind though. It's unusual to have such a long spell of fine weather.

Right, I'll stick the kettle on.

@HelpMeGetThrough sorry to hear about your arthritis. It must be such a nuisance - and very painful obviously.

Tiddlywinks63 · 25/07/2026 11:35

Good morning, I’m late because we had a power cut for 3 hours this morning, just as I put the kettle on for a coffee. Not happy having orange squash for my first drink of the day!
Tiddler and I have been sitting in the Shed, I’ve finished my first piece of sashiko, I’ll start another one shortly.
dh has taken bigger dog out, they’re going to the woods so it’ll be cool in the shade.
I spent an hour deadheading roses, moving planters and generally faffing around before it got too hot. Everything is bone dry, no signs of rain for the next two weeks…… The water butt is nearly empty, I’m using as little water as possible, just for the beans and tomatoes. There are ripe blackberries high up in the hazel trees behind the garden, I can’t work out how to get to them! Blackberry and apple crumble…..😋😋
Scampi, chips and salad for dinner I think….. or sausages, onions etc in ciabatta rolls……

Morning All! What's everyone up to today?
greenbean80 · 25/07/2026 11:37

We have guests so washing the bedsheets and sorting out the chaotic playroom! Then going to get some bits and bobs for food tonight for everyone to eat.

have already done the big food shop.

its not cheap to host nowadays is it?!

lucysmam · 25/07/2026 13:23

Big pot tidied, bramble cut back (only small shoots so easy), dead leaves taken off spike & I've cut the mystery shrub back so it doesn't overhang the path. Going to get dd1 to reach my hanging flower basket shortly so I can tidy that up.

Rest for my shoulder first though - I've had a browse of Vinted for the books I want. Missed two bargain sets now as I went to buy & someone else has got there first 😥. Crochet for an hour & thinking about a new thing to try/learn. Any suggestions? I thought Tarot might be interesting? I do have some cards but never made much effort with them 🤔.

Hello all,

Very late to the party today.

Was swimming until lunchtime, the joys of having a child in swimming club (other two have lessons) I guess I shouldn't moan as I've managed to get them all at the pool on one day, some parents are there multiple times a week. DC1 and DC3 have lessons at the same time and then I rush home to get DC2 to her swim meet. The Saturday meet is very oversubscribed so at least DC2 has a spot but we lose half a day most weekends to swimming!

We had a ploughmans lunch and I then had to run some errands (collect a few parcels, return something to M&S and grab ingredients for tomorrow's bolognese as I've booked shopping for later tomorrow).

Just finished washing up, have hung out a white wash and am about the bath DC3 as she still needs help with her hair.

Homemade burgers and wedges for dinner with salad.

@lucysmam we've just started The Rookie (myself and DC2) and it's fab! We're on about episode 8 now [S1]. Hope your shoulder feels better soon.

MarmaladeSandwich7 · 25/07/2026 18:20

Evening @lucysmam & the Saturday crew. Late to the party as I’ve been working. It was INSANE!! Didn’t help that we were woefully understaffed. I’ve actually surprised myself the last few weeks as there have been a lot of changes in the store & normally that would put me in a tailspin but I’m really rising to the challenge. Even the new Manager described me as “Can Do”. Very happy to say that I’ve also had praise from customers for how I’ve dealt with stressful situations. After my shift, I went to Lidl for flowers. I was going to buy ciabatta rolls for our first BBQ of the year tonight but it’s rained & it’s now quite dark 😢 Might try tomorrow. We have ribeye steaks, cherry toms & stuff to make a 3 ingredient potato salad. Tonight I’ll do what we would have had tomorrow which is jumbo battered sausages with chips & beans - yum!
Struggling a bit today. I keep having to get up in the early hours & broken sleep is really affecting me. Actually felt a bit unwell with it this morning & as if the sleep I did get wasn’t refreshing. I stopped taking codeine recently & oh boy, it’s tough! But I knew I couldn’t carry on as I was. It will definitely be worth it when I come out the other side of the withdrawal. As I was feeling ropey I just did a few bits before my shift including stripping our bed, hanging a few clothes out & unloading/loading the dishwasher. Need to remind DH to find a clean sheet & pillowcases. The pillows are disgusting so I might give them a wash at some point. I was going to suggest watching a film but think I will fall asleep! Definitely an early night on the cards. DD17 is at her GF’s indefinitely. It’s lovely & peaceful but I am missing her.

Chelsea26 · 25/07/2026 18:56

Evening all! Late today for me - been a busy one!

I had a nice lie in with DP with a couple of coffees in bed and then got up and made breakfast. I then made a bolognaise sauce that blipped away on the stove for hours this afternoon for dinner tonight (and some for the freezer) It’s bloody delicious even if I do say so myself!

I then decided is was going to make garlic and mozzarella stuffed bread to go with them so did that and got very hot kneading so had a little bob on the posh loungers in the pool to cool down.

DP had put up the new bathroom cabinet as the sun cracked one of the mirror doors of the old one and done a few more odd jobs so he felt he also deserved a bob!

He’s gone to get a few beers now and I’m sitting on the garden sofa with a glass of wine and my kindle. Will cook the pasta in an hour or so or when DSD and DSS start sniffing around saying they’re hungry, whatever comes first!

Missing my boys as they are away with their dad but they’re having a lovely time so it’s worth it.

Thislittlekitten · 25/07/2026 20:26

Hello Everyone

Very late today. We are on a long weekend trip this weekend to London. It is much cooler than it has been but still unbelievably hot for us poor Scottish folk.

Had a fab day of sightseeing and eating!! I love it here. We are just relaxing just now in the bar as we are exhausted. Another busy day planned tomorrow.

TheChosenTwo · 25/07/2026 20:30

Whew, evening all!
not sure how I’ve missed this thread, I’ve been in bed most of the day, MNing, watching telly and reading my book.
Recovering from an operation so taking it easy. Dh and I went for a drive and a walk this morning which was so nice, change of scenery is so helpful sometimes.
done a bit (a lot!) of online shopping, treating myself 😂
dh and ds were out all afternoon at a local festival so that was nice for them and nice for me to have proper peace.
Dh is now cooking dinner and once I’ve eaten I’ll be taking some painkillers and hoping for a good nights sleep!
