Are there more bluebottles and flies around this summer?

Are we just unlucky this summer, or are there more bluebottles/flies about than ever?

Both sets of neighbours are suffering as well. (We're in SW London, if that makes any difference!)

I’ve commented on this. It’s awful trying to eat outside with the hoards of blue bottles.

I have noticed lots of butterflies here in Dublin this year, but weirdly very few of those annoying little fruit flies. We are usually plagued with them in the summer.

Didn't the govt ban some major pesticide a couple of years back? Hopefully this is now having an effect.
We have a moth trap and have caught many more months than usual. Also getting hummingbird hawk moths every day.
Butterfly numbers are spectacular.

It's all good news for wildlife I guess.

Many more ants than usual here.

Yes, plenty of butterflies. But I don't get the rage for them ...

I guess the hot weather allows them to breed or something. We have fly screens everywhere because they drive me absolutely bonkers and I can't relax when they are buzzing around. A magnetic one for the back door so we can have the door open.

Worst for me this year is that we live in South Germany and get these disgusting brown flying small cockroaches - they are not the big ones which eat human food or spread disease thank goodness, they mainly eat rotting leaves so don't especially want to be inside houses, but they look like tiny versions of these and they are so quick. I have been squishing them because they creep me out so much, although I know they are actually completely harmless. They get confused in the warmer years and come inside houses.

Urgh - flying cockroaches. We first experienced those when we were in Australia. I had no idea that they could fly. Horrible things.

Our trap is hideous. What's even more hideous, though, is the knowledge that we're going to have to empty it at some point soon 😱

I am in similar area and I agree I think it’s the heat making them breed more and all of us having doors open more too
