What can I do with these old Disney videos?

We've had a declutter and have a large cardboard box full of old Disney cartoon videos, all still in good condition. Lion King, Sleeping Beauty, Winnie the Pooh etc. I don't think charity shops would be interested, and I don't even see them at car boot sales either. It seems rather a sad waste to just take them to the council tip as they were so loved, but what else could we do with them?

Any ideas please?

What kind of ideas are you looking for? Turning them into keepsakes in some way?

Are there places that digitise videos? Then you could give them to any family kids ?

Round here people put out boxes full of old stuff with a big ‘free’ sign attached.

It all seems to disappear within a matter of hours.

Copyright infringement. Can't do that. No kids in the family who would want them anyway I don't think.

I thought about Ebay, but there's about 30 of them and I just want them out of the house asap really. We don't get passing foot traffic, so there's no point in leaving them outside.

Would anywhere like a women's refuge still have a video player?

Sell them in bulk.

I don’t think they’d do Disney films. They seem to specify “home” videos a lot.

Are they dvd or vhs? If dvd then they dont really have much value to them. Vhs will have some value that collectors might buy. Try sticking them on vinted or ebay

There is definitely a market for Disney VHS, I would sell in bulk like a previous poster suggested.

Ah good. I did wonder whether there might be, as I'm aware that vinyl records have made a resurgence. Might secrete them away in a back cupboard for another ten years then. They're not eating anything.

oxfam sell vhs online. Ask at your nearest shop if they will take them for their online catalogue.

CDs and cassettes are cool again too. I have a small vinyl collection and my sister recently bought a load of Disney dvds at a car boot sale for my nephew.

I have a colleague who bought a cassette player for his children so they could listen to the cassette tapes from his childhood in the car.

I think sometimes sick children's hospitals still have video players so it might be worth asking if you can donate them.

In the meantime I looked on ebay and looking at the prices of what's currently for sale, they aren't worth more than a couple of quid each at the most. But by searching for 'nearest' I found a local seller a couple of miles away who has listed quite a lot of them and appears to be a hobby ebay seller, if you know what I mean. So I might contact them and ask if they want the boxful for a small consideration.

If you just want them gone just put them on your local Facebook marketplace and someone will take them.

I sold mine on Vinted and they went very quickly. Did not make much money but at least I wasn't throwing them away.

But niche but my autistic BiL will only watch videos and can use the video machine himself. He’s not into Disney, but I imagine if you pop them on eBay or the like they will sell! You never know who might really want them!

We still have a video player ourselves, and do have quite a lot of other videos we would still want to watch - performing arts family so recordings of them. DH has now announced he's found another box of the things. 😮

Copyright aside, it would be cheaper and better quality to just buy the same
on a modern format. Or subscribe to Disney+

What would be the point in digitising them? The picture quality would be rotten, and the movies are still widely available.

Open them. Take the tape out and bin it and put the cases in the plastic recycling. I spent an hour and a half doing this to my DDads videos.

So they can be watched if you don’t have a video player.

VHS picture resolution was less than half as good as standard definition, broadcast television when it was launched, 50 years ago this year. It’s near unwatchable now, on today’s large TVs.
