I’m about to take for a month to try to heal my distressingly inflamed gut / gastritis.

Have you taken them before?
Did you find coming off them difficult?

i’ve been on Omeprazole on and off for years. Only a low dose but can’t seem to fully come off it without symptoms coming flooding back. I was very tempted to try a devise called IQoro to see if it would work but it is £145 and feel like I would be wasting my money and I would probably forget to use it for the amount of time you are supposed to.

Sounds grim. I have come off them by tailoring the dose down and can stay off them as long as I avoid triggers.

I am on Day 75 of not being on PPIs, after 10 years of dependency on the bastard things. As you advise rightly, I tapered down gradually. This was having learned the potential side effects of long term use, that no GP, consultant or nurse had ever mentioned.

(But Oh My Lord they were quick to unilaterally stop the things I did need like post-BSO-hysterectomy oestrogen, till I challenged.)

It also means I am no longer taking Ibuprofen or similar products (for arthritis) for pain.

But I’m finally trying to get to grips with years of gut issues. And you know what helps the most? Cheap-as-chips bicarb in water.

(And an exclusion diet. And attending a Pain Management Programme.)

I bought one. Used it religiously for a month then forgot!

I have also learnt that humming activates the same muscles so I try to hum in the car for a few mins on the way to work.

I will try humming then. Much cheaper!

I'm really surprised reading al this. I've been on omeprazole a couple of times for reflux. For me it was very straightforward. I can relate to be bit of rebound symptoms I guess when I stopped taking them but it wasn't enough for me to consider going back on them and it soon resolved. It was more or less took them for a while, gut healed, stopped taking them.

I understand you don't want to be on meds for longer than necessary but with this one which is literally about giving your gut time to heal, you might find the best way to minimise rebound symptoms is to stay on them longer so your gut is well healed when given the challenge of extra acid. A mended gut. should be able to withstand normal stomach acid and if it doesn't, maybe it's not mended enough yet.

Yes this sounds reasonable. I guess some people have side effects that others don’t.
