Struggling to make female friends in my twenties. Any advice?

Hi everyone,

I am in my mid to late twenties and just can’t seem to find any female friends. I live in a small town and wfh self employed. So no colleagues, I am originally from another country so no family or friends nearby either. Only my partner who is great. But I feel like I so need a female friend/friend group as I have a lot of good friends back at home and I miss that so badly.

I do have a few hobbies and tried to find people through those but nothing so far. Also did events like friendship speed dating (yes it exists!!) but again, you only get to meet people for a couple of hours and then nothing else afterwards. I feel like it’s so ridiculously hard to find friends in your 20s nowadays! I do genuinely think the problem is just that I can’t find the right place to make good friends as like I said, I do have geniune friends at home.

And it’s not possible for me to change my job either as it’s my small business. Partner does have family but not many friends at all therefore can’t also meet his friend’s partners etc!! I am struggling…

Would appreciate any insight, thank you!

My DD went through the same after university when all her friends moved to different parts of tge UK for work. She joined Gal Pals on Facebook and also joined MeetUp where you can filter events by region or town and interest. She met lots of women in their 20s that way, and also discovered that she was far from alone - your twenties can be an odd time when you no longer have the university social life and your often working alone or in small offices with older people.
