Where are all the only children?

Where are all the only children ? Literally all my sons friends who are 8 have a sibling and most kids in school have at least 1 sibling! Middle class area in the north. I thought families were smaller now

I have to admit I enjoy my children a lot more individually. I can really see lots of pluses to stopping at just the one.

Agree in our area, 2 families with 4/5 children and very much the wealthiest with the best jobs

My DD is an only child, out of a class of 20 she is one of 5 only children but I know there are at least 6 more in her total year. She is also good friends with three only children. It’s pretty common where I live.

edited to say I don’t think the reasons for many of these parents having only children was financial, a few are older and a few just simply wanted one. We are the latter, we could afford another but love the calmness of one!!

I have one and several of my colleagues also have only children. But what puzzles me is that I know of just one other only child in my DD's class. The vast majority of the school families I know have two children, a smaller amount have three and a tiny number have four or more.

Edited to add, it's a "Good" C of E state school in the West Country. It's not in an impoverished part of town but it's certainly not posh either.

Very few only children in DS1 or DS2s class...middle class area in the SE. There's probably a few more families of 3 children than only children.

Catholic school though so there's probably cultural factors. Growing up lots of my friends were one of four but that's unaffordable these days!
