Royal Mail causing people to miss important medical appointments.

I missed a breast screening appointment last week. I was unaware I even had an appointment. I phoned and they said it was usually due to letters not being delivered. Same happened to partners physio appointment. Royal Mail are truly shite. Time for the NHS to phone or text instead.

Thanks @WerewolfOfLoudon , not seen it before. Going to attempt to set up an account. NHS Grampian if that’s relevant 🤷🏻‍♀️

You should have a hub for your region, our region is pretty dismal overall but they are very good with the texts and hub being accurate, even with appointments made over the phone. Hope yours is too!

As I mentioned previously, I have the app. Nothing on it concerning breast screening appointment.

Do you have notifications turned on?

It’ll be the hospital not typing them up and posting them in time, my local hospital often has a back log of a few weeks for letter writing. They really need to start texting like another hospital I use does.

Appointment letters aren't typed up?

Royal Mail are shocking now with their deliveries. I received a letter on 9 July dated 17 June.

I’ve now got the app as we cannot rely on Royal Mail these days the service is appalling.

I even got a letter recently that was over a year late…told my postie when I saw him which is rare he is spotted and he just shrugged!

But when was it posted?

May 2025!

I’ve said it was over a year late.

It doesn’t matter. As several people have already said, these appointments are not appearing in the app at all! There is no joined up system in place

It is all caused because the NHS is not a single organisation. People think it is but it really is not setup that way.

That and the government insistance on competition meaning each Trust or region comissioned and developed its own app rather than having a single app developed at national level.

No, its because the trusts refused to cooperate and work together or use standard off the shelf products which every private and most public organisations work with.

Every little fiefdom chooses to reinvent its own wheel at tax payers expense, then turns out wheels which are square, triangular or never produces the wheels at all. The vast bulk of the business systems problems in the NHS are 100% self inflicted by little fiefdoms refusing to cooperate or work as units of a larger organisation.

Imagine every branch of Tesco building its own scanning, logistics, email, HR systems and refusing to even learn from other branches let alone other businesses. Every branch has different product numbers for the same item. That is the NHS.

No, but they could have insisted on each trust/provider using the same software/systems or at least compatible systems, rather than allow a "free for all".

Lots of businesses are separate, i.e. privately owned separate franchises of shops, fast food chains, gyms, opticians, dentists, vets, accountants, etc., but part of the over-arching franchise agreement is that they use common/compatible systems as part of the franchise agreement.

It's the "empire building" and ffiefdoms within the NHS that allowed the fragmentation to happen and is partly why the NHS is on it's knees.

It really doesn't have to be this way "just because" the NHS is broken down into separate trusts.

Exactly and its worse than that - even where one strategy or product is procured or recommended centrally (for consistency and cost savings) individual trusts just ignore that and insist on doing their own thing. There is nobody at the top to mandate “thou shalt use blue widgets across the board”.

Its the same mentality which results in money being wasted on Rolls Royce systems to do the equivalent of delivering milk (but which augment the local CVs nicely with the latest gizmos).

Its utter madness and has wasted billions of taxpayers money over the years and often results in huge waste of both staff and patient time (lost productivity to the economy).

Thanks again @WerewolfOfLoudon . I have downloaded the app, and can see that it has notes of my vaccines etc. so hopefully it will record future appointments. Much appreciated.
