Gobsmacked about Housekeeper Hourly Rate

After training for four years part-time and getting a Diploma, I got myself a nice Charity role but am somewhat disillusioned about the fact that I could earn £5 more AN HOUR in a Housekeeper role. I work as a Housekeeper, part-time, and have done for nearly 20 years but now thinking I might as well forget my full-time Charity role and apply for the Housekeeper job (well, already have done!!). It’s less hours but more money!

But this isn't relevant to my statement which was about

a) average graduates on middle incomes
b) on plan 2 + loan systems
c) and so therefore in about 50k debt and paying 9% of their salary per month

In the 1990s things were very different. It isn't the 90s any more.

Yes it’s the same in any industry that people want to work in vs don’t really want to work in. Journalism for example… you’ve got reporters in London on < £30k and deputy editors on < £40k. Bonkers

My DP is on Plan 5 now I believe, I'm not sure of the terms but it sounds like it might be worse than it used to be under Plan 2.

Not crazy - supply and demand.

If very few people are both willing to do and competent at the housekeeper role and it's essential to the organisation that the role is filled then of course it should pay more than a role scores or hundreds of people apply for, and some would potentially even be willing to do for free...

There are plenty of graduate job bs that pay poorly because of massive over supply of candidates.

Most people would rather sit at home working on their laptop, or sit in an office, than do a physical job. It's actually quite heartening to hear that people actually working physically hard are getting well paid -
editing to add: more so because this is a stereotypically female dominated type of physical work (male dominated physical jobs have always paid on average better than jobs where the majority of workers are women, depressingly obviously).

If you earn 459 for 34 hours as a care home housekeeper thats £13.50 an hour.

How can the charity job be paying £5 an hour less? That would be illegal.

the Care Home Housekeeper role is £18 per hour

my current role pays £13.50 but I required a professional qualification to get the job 😅

I would have said £20 an hour but I am in SE
