it’s shocking if this is murder. She could be controversial but often just spoke a lot of common sense and said what everyone else was thinking but afraid to say

NotTerfNorCis · 10/07/2026 16:33

Some really despicable comments on Twitter, gloating over her death because of her views. Even now it's being rumoured that she was murdered. It really reflects badly on 'progressives'.

purpleme12 · 10/07/2026 16:36

Why are people still posting saying they don't believe she's been murdered?!

Runsaway · 10/07/2026 16:39

Widdecombe. Ann.

Why start a post about the death of an old person without even bothering to try to spell her name right? It’s disrespectful.

It’s all speculation at the minute, she may well have fallen.
Interesting the amount of comments from women on tv today saying she was a “voice for women”… she was staunchly against abortion!

It says they are searching for a white male and she died from serious injuries so more than speculation. They don’t usually make announcements like that unless they're pretty sure whats happened.

Exactly. They’re not going to be doing a press conference unless they are pretty sure there’s been foul play

I saw somewhere on FB that she'd had a massive stroke.

Best not to believe posts on FB.

TheCrenchinglyMcQuaffenBrothers · 10/07/2026 17:16

Bloody hell, I was not expecting that.

I don’t think agreeing with someone is a pre requisite for being respectful toward their death. At least, not in a sane society.

My view is that if someone is unable to show respect towards others then I do not need to respect them, even in death.

That aside, it’s horrendous to hear that it looks like she was murdered.

Saw an update that shed been murdered
No one deserves that
Her politics weren't for me but that's a by the by.
A bit of a shock to see that as a headline

Also best not to believe Mumsnet.

BBC news update ..man arrested on suspicion of murder.

WhisperingHi · 10/07/2026 20:12

I can’t separate the person from their beliefs. Beliefs make the person.

That doesn’t mean I get any satisfaction out of her murder, she didn’t deserve that at all and I hope however it happened, it was quick.

But it does mean that I don’t really feel anything about it. Someone’s age doesn’t negate the damage they can do to people. Reform are a stain on our society and act abhorrently to fellow human beings, I can’t equate a Reform supporter with a kind elderly woman.

Upstartled · 10/07/2026 20:17

Imagine being apathetic about the violent murder of a woman because she didn't share your views? What's wrong with you?

Political beliefs can be very dangerous and have big impacts on people. Do you think political beliefs of politicians are inconsequential? Sad and naive if you do.

I can’t agree that people with harmful beliefs are kind people.

Upstartled · 10/07/2026 20:49

You should be utterly ashamed of yourself.

Fast800goingforit · 10/07/2026 21:00

I suspect a burglary gone wrong given the details the police have released. Poor Ann.

Teanbiscuits33 · 10/07/2026 16:09

I’m surprised that I’ve not seen anyone on social media claiming it’s politically motivated yet, especially since Farage in the last few days has claimed he has received death threats and calls for his assassination and has claimed the £5 million bung was for security. They will 100% capitalise on this

On the other thread on Mumsnet this started almost as soon as the police announced it was a murder investigation.

Roulett · 10/07/2026 21:03

This is very sad. She was straight as a die. A force of nature. I really admired her. RIEP.

The left showing its nasty spiteful side as usual. Just like they did when Charlie Kirk was murdered 🙄

Perhaps the issue is with you then

Widdecombe. Ann.

Three threads about this and not one of them has her name spelled correctly in the thread title.

I really don’t think it’s ’common sense’ and ‘what everyone else was thinking’ to say homosexuality could be cured by science and that the victims of Harvey Weinstein had a ‘choice’.

Just because she’s allegedly been murdered doesn’t mean we have to talk bollocks about her.

RIP Ann. I disagreed with almost everything she said but no one deserves to be murdered. I hope justice is served swiftly. She was very funny on strictly and the clip of her straightening her hair on BB is TV gold! 🕯️
