Forecast here is 30c again for the next few days, still no sign of rain and its almost 6 weeks since it last rained, i'm over it now. The freezers in my two nearest supermarkets were out for weeks and the ice cream man deserted us :-( Actually though - the ground is just yellow everywhere in east anglia, this can't be good for farmers and food prices and one of the wildfires in was only a couple of miles from me and its devastated the ground for wildlife.

Wow, it looks like I'm the only person here who likes summer normally

The thread is for people who can't bear the heat. No need for the 'wow.'. Summer is an ordeal of endurance for many of us to get through and it helps to voice our unhappiness on here without being judged.

I invert everything in my mind. Batten down the hatch against the nasty sun, July is my January and you bet in my spare time I’ve been in my dark living room most of the summer with an air conditioning unit and watching Christmas films! I’m hoping to be out and about a lot more by October.

It feels fresher outside which is good but what isn’t good is that it still feels really hot inside and the breeze doesn’t come inside the house so I still have a fan on. My living room is 27/28c

And i hope more of them follow suit.

@JewelleryCat the breeze doesn't come inside my place either but we are expecting another horrible tropical night tonight and tomorrow I think.

22 is fairly normal for this time of year and it would be copeable if i didnt live in a Sanctuary sweatbucket

I am curious JB why the flats are so hot? Are they very small or too much insulation etc? Are they old/new? It sounds awful.

Right and a normal English summer of 20/22 is pretty nice. IMHO

And my flat can cope with it as well.

Roof renewal was done in 2020 with new insulation. The emphasis was on warmth not cooling

Yes, it’s been the same here. Fan on all day and night since whenever these heatwaves started

My two AC live in flats and said “ It’s not been too bad / it’s been okay.” today. It’s been 32C and one is in a very built up area in London with poor ventilation. We agree that both have started to acclimatise

Today hasn’t been humid in Essex

If London is the same that might account for why they’re feeling a bit better. Or maybe they are acclimatising I don’t know.

I kept looking at the measuring thing during the day and the humidity was quite low.

I have escaped to the pub. I hate sitting here on my own, but the flat is just too hot.

I like normal summers but maybe a tad warmer so mid 20s is nice. But I don’t live in a flat that gets hot. Anything over 30 is restrictive in this country and highly unpleasant.

@EmeraldRoulette I think you’re right about the low humidity, that makes a big difference

I met a friend in our local country park today and everywhere is yellow, it’s so dry

The problem with hot flats with big windows and/or no ventilation is that if the sun is shining the flat can get hotter than outside. So in theory low twenties is ‘ok’ but if that temp is accompanied by scorchio suns on the forecast then it’s a big fat NO from me.

I’m sure I didn’t used to hate summer this much. I’ve always preferred autumn and winter but if your daily life is miserable because of where you live, then…

All around me seems to be burst water pipes and leaks ! .
I'm hoping today is the last day of the 30s.
