My boyfriend wanted to know who 'Soul Eleven Soul' were, bless him.
It was a bit of a watershed for me because I realised that electronic music was starting to regularly dominate the charts.

I can remember Back to Life being everywhere when it first came out....and particularly one Notting Hill Carnival where everything fell into place and me and my friends had loads of space to dance and this came on....felt like my soul left my body and came back with a big hug and kiss from somewhere celestial.
(disclaimer : possibly substance enhanced ) I still love it tho.

I loved Soul II Soul.

They defied definition. They weren't rap or dance or rock or indie or pop. They were a brand new joyous sound .😍

Does everyone know how it was written? Caron Wheeler had a near-death experience, where she questioned her creator about her earthly purpose, and when she came out of it, she wrote this! Remarkable.

This was my favourite song for ages! Even had the lyrics written out somewhere.

I think the Beautiful South put “Back to bed back to reality” at the end of one of their songs and were successfully sued by Soul II Soul.

This was on the first mixed tape I ever got, along with Through The Fire by Chaka Khan. From my crush who had amazing taste. Where are you now, Iain?
