Hey. I’m booked in for tomorrow 1pm to have my upper right molar removed. I’m sooo scared of getting dry socket just heard the worst stories about it 😭. Also I read that being on the combined pill increases the risk so double worried now. Please someone reassure me lol I’m also scared of the whole tooth removal process. Thanks.

And thank you everyone for the advice. Will follow it all and hopefully prevent dry socket.

That was quick which is good. What kind of pain is it? Is it more like soreness or a sharp pain similar to a toothache? Thanks for the reassurance ☺️

No pain at all with the tooth hole.
Just a slit stinging soreness felling where the injection 💉 went in, but honestly its not that bad.
Nothing like toothache pain so dont worry, im having coffee now.

OP glad it's all over and done with. Take some pain killers now and you shouldn't have any pain when the numbness wears off. You can alternate ibuprofen and paracetamol every 3/4 hours if you need to.

Thanks for reminding me, I’ve just taken ibuprofen now as I can feel slight pain due to maybe the numbness starting to wear off.

I have had three extractions, all bottom teeth. Two were fine but the third one had a dry socket- I was terrified but actually… it was pretty much painless. To be honest, I think the nerve had completely died by that point so there was nothing left to feel!

At any rate, the raging infection I’d had prior to the extraction was the worst pain I’d ever experienced- way worse than my drug-free childbirths. Even a painful dry socket couldn’t possibly have been more painful than the infection, I don’t think. There is a ‘window’ for dry socket, so once you get past day 5 (I think, but don’t quote me), you’re probably home and dry. Or not dry, hopefully!

Good luck- hope all goes really well.
