Please stop giving personalised hen party keepsakes that just become rubbish

If you are planning a hen/ wedding/ any party etc please don't give me 5 personalised keep sake gifts!

I recently went to a hen which I really enjoyed, I am sure I will remember it. It was really fun and I have photos + memories.

I was also given a lot of absolute junk that did not even make it home with me.

• Hat
• Little plastic toy
• Tassel/ neck thing
• Plastic glasses
• Personalised key ring - did keep
• Plastic shot glasses
• Pen
• Eye gel things
• Sash - I can get on with this one
• Chocolate willies - were actually nice and I did eat it
• All in a personalised little bag.

The VAST majority of these things were left in the hotel the next day.

I know it is exciting and you can get carried away. But least don't

dd only did them as her bridesmaids (except 1 as she’s not engaged!) did them so didn’t want them to feel they’d missed out 🤷. She is not doing anything for hen and afaik neither is MOH - wedding they’ll get a nice necklace to wear (Clogeau) on the day and that’s it! There are zero plans for hangers, glasses, robes etc. No personalised sunglasses or glow sticks either.

We gave out little bags of mini eggs as we got married Easter weekend - went down a treat 🤣

I don't classify that as wasteful tat!

The necklace will hopefully last as long as my aunt's locket that I wear!

You sound like a miserable mare. Why do you care what fun little things the people planning it out together. Bin them if you like. But don’t be miserable about it

It's wasteful and doesn't add anything. I wouldn't enjoy a celebration any more because I received cheap little plastic "gifts" that will end up straight in the bin. Most people don't want a personalised sash/plastic Elton John glasses/whatever cluttering up their house and it just ends up going straight to landfill. It's a waste of money and terrible for the environment.

I agree OP but I also get a bit peeved at Corporate branded rubbish. Ds started a new job last year and he got a pile of crap with company branding he will never use. People need to stop buying other people shit they don’t need!

For our wedding favours we had photo frames. We asked all the guests to send us a photo of themselves, preferably as a child, but any photo they liked really. The frames with photos in acted as place markers, instead of cards, and everyone loved them. One family member has their frames on their mantlepiece, still with the photos they sent us for the wedding in, others have put new pictures in the frames, but all are being used.

We had mints. Again the vast majority of them were eaten at some point.

I have been to weddings where I know the couple have put huge effort into a very personal favour. Only for the vast majority of them to be left. One friend was quite upset the next day when she say them in the corner where staff had left them during clean up.

@PawMaw that actually does sound really funny! I'd have worn it on the day and then it'd be gone when I showered so not cluttering up the place.

@Dogmum74 I am not a miserable mare. It's not like I made any sort of fuss about it on the day.

@GameOfJones Most of us had travelled a good distance for the hen so left it all in the hotel. So just such a waste! I'd be with you on not wanting tonnes of tat. My sons are still very young so no party bags yet, but I will only be sending kids home with a few sweets or something. No toys.

I am in Ireland and a lot of people write 'Cárta Cúig' on birthday invites, I will be too. It literally translates to card five. But parents know it means no gifts needed, but if you want a fiver in a card is plenty and little Sarah will pick out something herself.
It was a campaign ran by a primary school years ago and really took off.

@Biggles27 I have only been to one hen with a stripper about 10 years ago. It was embarrassing! Thankfully none since.
