DS12 cooked food for the first time at school today

This is what the teacher thought was a good idea for them to cook. It really is the end of a loaf, covered in tomato sauce and sprinkled with grated cheese.

I do wonder what was going through their mind when they decided this was a good idea.

Yum.

I remember making a cheese and potato pie - just mash with cheese stirred in. It wasn’t bad - I suppose somebody ate it, but my DM did rather resent having to supply ingredients for such things, when money was always tight and my efforts were never anything like enough for 6 of us!

In the early 60s, ( yes, I am that old), we had six weeks of cookery lessons. We made vegetable soup, soused herrings (!) and a sponge cake. I liked making the last but was berated by the Home Ec. teacher when I dropped and broke the Mason Cash mixing bowl. I have hated cooking ever since.

i remember when i did my CSE we had to do the following but with 30 girls also at the same time, not all doing the same options for the exam but enough fighting over the equipment it did mean not everything went to plan

first i had to do a talk on modern electricity in the home it was a ten minute talk and i had to do at least four posters. at least the MEB was open then so I had loads of leaflets to make the posters from. washers, driers, blankets, storage heaters etc
i had to wash dry and iron washing, i could not get it finished washing in time due to only being one machine so i took it out squeezed it out and dried it then did not have time to iron but i was given credits for that
i had to do three dishes from scratch i did a cake a quiche and something else which i cant remember now. it is easy to write but harder under pressure
