Hello

i I was due to take the Eurostar this morning but it was cancelled. All my family are waiting in Milan for me including my daughter who is 7.

I am sitting in Cologne airport (got a bus here which was awful but wasn’t sure if I was gonna bus all the way to Milan or not. I hate flying. I planned my whole trip around not flying but realised the journey to Milan was too long in this heat and got off at Cologne and have a flight booked at 6.25.

I am very very very anxious and want to turn round and get out and find a bus but I can’t bare 13 hours in n another coach!! My feet got all bruised from my shoes and swollen from the heat.

Help me get on this flight

You can always natter on here about anything and everything until it's time for take off.

Snowcanwait · 25/06/2026 16:50

Nearly time for boarding guys. Flights an hour.

If you place your fist firmly against your solar plexus and breathe in it forces your body to relax (somewhat anyway). Also let your jaw hang a little open rather than clenching.

It’s a short flight and it’s going to be absolutely fine. Distract yourself however you need to ( not booze). Word games or downloaded tv or books or whatever. You’re ok.

Rowgtfc72 · 25/06/2026 16:56

I have the same problem with trains. Had to do an hour on one last Fri. Break your flight into chunks. Where will the flight be in ten minutes? Half an hour? 40 mins?
By the time you've busied yourself tracking it, you'll be off the plane!

Hottiiieee · 25/06/2026 16:58

You can do this and you will be seeing your little girl so much sooner than sitting on a coach Xx

Songlines · 25/06/2026 17:01

I'm.going to track your flight on FlightRadar and send you positive thoughts.
From another anxious flyer

Seawolves · 25/06/2026 17:02

You've got this! Try to focus on the end result and you'll soon be with your DD.

Safe travels

NelferchyLlyn · 25/06/2026 17:06

Im going to track your flight too! We are all rooting for you. Let us know when you easily arrive in Milan without the crazy long hot bus ride!

stayathomegardener · 25/06/2026 17:12

Bon voyage! Very proud of you as another anxious flyer.

capelmustard · 25/06/2026 17:12

Dh flies a lot with his job which involves working with pilots/ cabin crew. He is always saying how rigidly all the airlines ( even the budget ones) have to apply safety standards, there is no cutting corners with safety.
I don't love flying but I find reminding myself of this helps. Statistically you're far safer in a plane than a car.

You will be absolutely fine and afterwards you will be so pleased you did it.

TheToteBagLady · 25/06/2026 17:13

Best of luck.

My friend (40s) is a very nervous flyer.
She recently told the cabin crew, and they went off and got her something to colour. Of all things, it was a picture of a plane 😂 We still laugh about it now.

You’ll be fine.

I like @Bobbie12345678 ‘s description of turbulence as potholes in the sky. I’ve also read that in the past, so it must have been mumsnet. Also, thinking of the plane as being on a bus is also helpful

PullTheBricksDown · 25/06/2026 17:14

Go on OP! Look a a photo of your daughter. She's waiting for you. You can do this.

ERthree · 25/06/2026 17:23

Your child is waiting for you. Deep breathe and Just do it.🌿

Songlines · 25/06/2026 17:25

Just waiting for the Barcelona flight to take off and then she's on her way.
Well done, OP

diddl · 25/06/2026 17:35

If the flight is an hour, by the time you have taken off there will probably only be about half an hour before you are getting ready to land!

Lizchapman · 25/06/2026 17:48

Sending you calming positive thoughts ❤️

Snowcanwait · 25/06/2026 18:29

Landed. I can’t tell you how much your support helped me! Beyond words xxx

DuchessedOrleans · 25/06/2026 18:35

Well done op. You will be so proud of yourself. I loathe flying so your thread has actually helped me too💛

murasaki · 25/06/2026 18:36

Brilliant! Now go hug your child!

diddl · 25/06/2026 18:49

That's great Op.

I hate flying, but I actually think it's more the waiting at the airport, watching the boards, hoping that there won't be a delay as I'm usually catching a train the other end...

Just the whole rigmarole really!

MollyDigby1988 · 25/06/2026 18:51

Well done!!!! Now go enjoy your family time x
