My effing washing machine is a habitual liar

Here I am in the small hours, waiting for my washing machine to finish, it having assured me it would be finished by midnight. For reasons I’ll not go into, I need to hang out the wash this evening, so it will be dry by the morning, and I need to be up and left by 10am, yet it is now approaching 2.30am. I’m not the only one to be lied to, am I? Was I a fool to ever believe its promises?

I have a lying little Bosch bastard too. It sings its merry little 'All finished!' song and when I go to the kitchen, it won't release the lock until it's ready. I swear there's a goblin inside holding the door shut.

And doesn’t it bang on about finishing too.

Yes, I heard you once, no need to keep doing it like a teenager endlessly rewinding and playing their favourite song!!

My Bosch has been silenced. Possibly that’s why it behaves like a bastard.

You can silence it?? 😮

Straight to the washing machine manual that I’ve never read, to find out more. Every day is a school day.

You can silence the dictator??? How ?? Please share.

I don’t care so much about the lying but the demand that I attend to it the moment it has decided it has finished drives me insane. Designed by a bloke surely.

I assume all these are Bosch machines. My MIL has a Bosch that does not do a rinse and spin apparently. Top of the range and it won't even do that. I'll stick to a cheap Candy. At least I won't get the repair man, sucking on his teeth dramatically when it goes wrong 😁.

JMSA · 22/06/2026 09:27

The Bosch minute is a big fat lie.

I can’t remember. It was gagged the moment it was first plugged in. Presumably I read it in the manual.

You know you can't hang your washing out overnight, don't you? 😱

This! Peg spiders move into clothes at night time!

Also have a Bosch. Also a big liar.

elgreco · 22/06/2026 11:05

Me too, only properly noticed when trying to leave on time for a flight. Lying Bosch!

My Bosch has got rinse and spin, previous Bosch we had did too.

For Most Serie 4, 6, and Maxx ModelsTurn on the machine:

  • Ensure the program dial is set to Off
  • Enter Programming Mode: Press and hold the Start/Reload or Eco button
  • Turn the Dial: While holding the button, turn the dial one notch clockwise (usually the Cottons 30°C or 40°C position) and wait for a beep
  • Adjust Volume: Release the button. The display will show a number (volume level)
  • Press a button like Finish In or the Temp button until the display shows 0
  • Adjust End Alarm: Turn the dial one more notch clockwise to set the end-of-cycle alarm volume
  • Press the same button to drop the volume to 0
  • Save: Turn the dial back to the Off position to save the changes.

For Samsung:

  • if there is a bell symbol, press and hold for 3 seconds
  • if there's no bell symbol, press and hold the temperature button for 3 seconds

Lives improved in just a few moments 😀

Apparently they don't have a spin and drain programme, just Googled, and they have a rinse and spin but not spin and drain. It seems you can do something mysterious to stop the rinse function and just spin. No wonder my 92 year old MIL is confused.

Purplecatshopaholic · 23/06/2026 09:05

I think they all lie. Time moves strangely in washing machine land.

GreatOffWhiteFalcon · 23/06/2026 09:07

My washing machine is given to exaggerating, but it's not as bad as the camera.
