Is using an electric saw at 8.30am on Saturday unreasonable?

Using an electric saw at 8:30am in the morning on a Saturday should be illegal. Our neighbours have work men in the garden since 8am this morning and I’m trying to have a peaceful lie in after a hard week at work and a hot nights sleep 🥵

WHY ARE PEOPLE LIKE THIS

@GimmieABreakOr3i work weekends covering a 7 days service so im off during the week sometimes. Im aware that People have their own lives etc… and that when I live in an area with other people they may get work done and I can’t control the noise.
To me 8:30 is a lie in….if people were doing work 7-7:30 then I would have something to say!!

igelkott2026 · 20/06/2026 11:01

Yes I think it's unreasonable at the weekend. It isn't a working day for the majority so builders etc will just have to start a little later (or work later on a Friday to finish off instead of clocking off early).

9am is early enough on a Saturday and no earlier than 10am on a Sunday.

I am up and about by the way - I do parkrun at 9am every week so am up shortly after 7 - but people want a lie-in should be able to have one.

No screamy kids either - keep them indoors if they can't play quietly.

But not everyone works your shifts. I WAS having a lie in, after a long hard week, what’s wrong with that? I don’t always want to be rushing around. I work full time.

Also no one can do work 7-7:30am. That’s illegal. My point is they did the work unnecessarily at the earliest they could on a Saturday. It was for a border. They’ve gone now. Felt unnecessary.

It’s Saturday. Absolutely acceptable

Like I have said previously, the world would be a much better place if people were much more considerate. Their “loud” work has now stopped, so there was no need to complete it at 8/8:30am in the morning.

Just because you can, doesn’t mean you should.

Totally agree with the "just because you can doesn't mean you should" comment.

Applies to so much.

@GimmieABreakOr3so the people who work Monday-Friday should also not make a noise till around 9am also to accommodate me and my busy week?
Champion…… noisy people taking their kids to school etc…. I could have my coffee in peace then have a lovely quiet school run…..

That’s not a weekend…. God forbid we have two days off!!!!

@GimmieABreakOr3
but it’s the same….its my day off….ive been busy…im tired and need rest.

But other people have to go to work and get stuff done!
They have stayed within the requirements of when to start on a Saturday.

Weekmindedfool · 20/06/2026 11:11

Anything after 8am is totally fine.

I’m sorry you seem to have problems with being a shift worker. I feel you are conflating two separate issues anyway. I do believe we should be a bit different on weekends and that’s my personal view, you are allowed yours. Cheerio!

I would think they're being sensible and cracking on before the heat. Not at all unreasonable.

The world doesn’t revolve around you OP.
If you don’t like noisy neighbours then move somewhere without neighbours.

ExquisiteDressing · 20/06/2026 11:15

No, I think any time after 8 is reasonable on a Saturday.

monicaspurpledoor · 20/06/2026 11:16

@GimmieABreakOr3i don’t…..I’m aware that peoples lives don’t revolve around me….people have to work and go on about their lives and it’s perfectly reasonable to stay within the requirements for outside work on a Saturday….
To me a weekend is no different to a weekday as a hell of a lot of people work weekends and their working week doesn’t stop the same time as yours.

My DH recently suggested there’s the “legal threshold” and then the “politeness” threshold, as we sadly have neighbours who ignore the latter. So I hear you OP, technically it’s ‘fine’ from 08:00 but it’s still annoying and would definitely be inconsiderate if a regular thing. I think I would like ultimately to live somewhere with no one around (but obviously then what about the ghosts and things that go bump in the night….Confused), but, alas, that’s not our current reality.

AbsoluteHoot · 20/06/2026 11:29

If it’s builders, after 8am is fine. I get that it’s annoying though.

Meh. Not a big deal. They presumably need to get a job done. Who sleeps after 8 anyway?

That's a really good way of looking at it. If I am personally doing noisy DIY at the weekend I wouldn't start before 10am out of consideration for the neighbours. But if I had professionals in then I guess I would let them start earlier.

Loads of people sleep after 8. What a silly comment.

Hammy19 · 20/06/2026 11:36

I'd be understanding if it was a one off. If it went on a few weeks in a row then I'd say something to them

Well not really. I dont know any adults over the age of 25 who routinely sleep after 8. Especially in the summer months when the sun comes up super e a rly.

Personally, I haven't slept past 8 since the 1990s so not that silly.

youalright · 20/06/2026 11:40

Its just one of them things I'm sure at some point you will be doing work to your home or garden that will equally annoy your neighbours. The majority of people apart from some teens or people who work night shift are up at that time

This is what I mean. They didn’t look like professionals either, they looked like friends.
