What can I get DP for his 40th?

I cannot think of anything.

He enjoys football and cricket, though rarely plays, watching most sports really, reading, enjoys drawing now and then though he’s terrible at it, half heartedly does a bit of bird watching. He’s not into food. He plays darts regularly.

I looked for a signed copy of his favourite book but it’s well out of my price range. I don’t think he’d want an activity. He’d appreciate something thoughtful above anything else but I am stumped! If anyone has any recommendations for what gifts you’ve got people which have went down well I’d appreciate them!

Or maybe just lots of wee treats through out the birthday week. More about a really nicely wrapped ( by you) pack of whatever ...one for each day , as easy/ simple as an apple/ bag of crisps?

Tbh maybe a good ol bj might be as appreciated...
(That's what dh asks for annually)...tmi?

Is he into Lego? There loads of themed set especially around football atm. I got my brother a jaws set for his 40th

Have you seen the books that turn a photo into versions by famous artists or a book created about someone’s life?

Tickets for "The Hundred" Cricket match? They're played in August, so it would be a bit early, but still something fun for him to watch.

Never heard of this! Thank you, I’m going to look into it.

He doesn’t need a birthday to get them 😆

He might actually. We do go on hot tub weekends away so he might like that.

Then go for that.
Plus as he likes reading a copy of a best-selling novel from 40 years ago (secondhand or current edition if still in print).
Sorted.

Yes! His brother got one for his 40th! They’re amazing.

Oh my god! Just checked and the best selling book of the year is by one of his favourite authors and it’s one he hasn’t read! Brilliant idea!

Four months away. I like this idea - what would I ask? That they sign something?

I’d really love to get him a signed copy of his favourite book but unfortunately they are very thin on the ground.

I did this once, wrote a letter saying why the person liked them and said it was their birthday coming up and they would be grateful for an autograph or something personalised. Make sure to write to a range of fame - as the less famous are maybe more likely to respond quickly. I got posters, notes, headshots, original art. From a variety of more local celebs, obscure artists, and Hollywood directors. A flurry in the first few months, then a trickle over the year. Very fun gift and super personalised. The stamps cost the most (need to get US stamps so ask someone over for the World Cup to bring some back for you!)

Who is his favourite author? I glow lots on Facebook and lots are responsive. They may sign a book if you post to publisher and pay for the return

Yay 😁
(off to Google bestsellers from 1986 out of curiosity......)

His absolute favourite is dead and died not long after his one hit wonder book. That must be why it’s so hard to find anything signed.

Aww that’s a shame. As a book lover though I’d love anything book related. A visit and voucher to spend in a fab bookstore somewhere depends where you live, there is a fab famous one in Alnwick

We’re not far away from Alnwick actually! Will look into that.
