Best Ryanair large cabin bag that’s NOT a suitcase?

Last summer I booked flights for a trip I’m going on in a month or so, believing that I would travel hand luggage only (🙈). Having now done a hand luggage only trip, I will not be doing that.

It means I’ve now got a checked in suitcase and a large cabin bag that I’ve paid for. I’m obviously going to use it, because it cost me money.

The thing is, I’m a bit stuck for what bag to take. I was going to take a tote, but I’m not keen on turning it to the side to size it up. My cabin bag is a Katie Loxton cabin bag that fits the dimensions perfectly.

I really don’t know what to take! I was thinking a backpack, but I’m not sure where I’d get one that fits those dimensions, but also works for day to day life.

I did consider my longchamp le pliage large tote, but again I’m not sure!

I got a decent sized overhead locker bag from Primark that’s rectangular and has shoulder straps like a rucksack. It has an elastic strap at the back that slides down over the big case handles for when you’re wheeling the case about. Really handy!

I agree that it would be a faff to try and handle two wheeled cases at once, so this option worked best for me.

I also have a squishy rucksack that has a large single strap that slings over my chest when I have the rectangle rucksack on my back. The squishy rucksack easily fits under the seat. I’d rather have rucksacks with lots of pockets for passports, water bottles etc. and good zips than a normal handbag for the actual flying/travelling and put my normal daily handbag into the checked in suitcase.

Top tip for future trips. With Ryanair its often not much more to take a 20 kg hold bag than it is a large cabin bag, so that's what I often do.

Means I don't have to get a wheelie through security, drag it round the airport on and off the plane and fight for overhead locker space. Well worth the usually minimal wait at the other end and you can put all your liquids in there.

Unless you think you'll use the large cabin bag again I'd try to borrow one. I think a large rucksack, cross body bag and your hold case will be easiest to manage when travelling.

I'm bewildered by you and far from offended, I have thicker skin than that TBH. It's not that hard to make a decision on a flipping bag. So get a life love. Pick a bag, order it, buy it, go on hols like a camel. And enjoy!!

Did you see this thread, it could help you out, maybe post your question there, the overpackers on that thread might have some ideas for you!

Why so rude and aggressive? You say the OP hasn’t offended you, so what is it that has made you so angry?

I’m a bit confused about the exact bag you need but if you wants a large cabin bag that is the size of a carry on suitcase but is not a suitcase then the Eastpak transverse backpacks are really good and fit lots in.

I personally take a wheelie suitcase for my large cabin bag and a backpack for my underwear bag (Cabin Zero) but I only take hand luggage usually because I hate waiting for my bags at the other end, but I realise that’s not what you want to do.

Slothlydoesit · 13/06/2026 12:57

Oops not underwear bag!! Under seat bag!

I’ve spent the money on it. I’m not going to waste money!

So instead you will make your life more difficult by lugging an extra bag around?! That is bonkers.

I'm bemused and frustrated with OP that's all. I kindly gave my suggestion for an overhead bag that would make it easier for her to manage a checked bag, an underseat bag, and an overhead bag on her own.

OP has not said she would use any of the suggestions given so far. There's only so much you can do!

Is this luggage just for one person? I guess it’s bought now so rather pointless to query it, but that does seem a huge amount. Use a backpack as cabin luggage. Osprey are good. Next time maybe look at getting one of those vac pack things that suck the air out and compress your clothes. I would find it a real faff toting all that around. What do you mean about not putting your bag sideways?

Yes I'd suggested Eastpack up thread but I think IP got distracted by all the other comments! It is really the best !

The eastpak I came across looks just so slightly too big 😩 but it does look good so I wonder if I just under pack it slightly and tighten it, it might work…

The only dimension that it doesn't meet is the depth which easily solved by not overfilling it. Never had issues with it being rejected so far !

Intrigued to know where you're going and whether work or holiday. Bags plural to pack? Not the point, I realise! Decanting toileteries intosmall containers will reduce weight . I find my washbag tends to be the heaviest item. I always fly in my heaviest footwear too, for me hiking boots but am getting impression you probably won.t be worried about those! Heavy footwear for flying is also sensible on safety grounds.

IdBeLionIfISaid · 13/06/2026 15:46

One suitcase and a carry on should be absolutely fine for 10 days but anyway why can't you just buy a rucksack?

Two southern European countries. Lots of moving around, I’ll do a click and collect at the airport for toiletries etc.

I can easily fill double these bags 🤣
