Annoyed by Andrex cashing in on ‘women’s issues.’

I’m rationally angry at the Andrex “women poo in labour” advert.

The subject has precisely fuck all to do with the product, because nobody’s using toilet paper during labour. It exists because Andrex decided they needed a purpose ad — something designed to make people go, “Oh look, Andrex cares about women.”

They don’t. They care about selling toilet paper. Which is exactly what a toilet paper brand should care about.

So stay in your lane and stop trying to cash in on random women’s causes that have nothing to do with what you actually sell.

over.

I don't understand how this advertising is different from getting people to worry about bad breath, dandruff, period leaks, meeting someone horrible on a blind date, your kid not making friends at school, looking stupid in front of your friends, cleaning mud out of clothes, car accidents and encouraging sales based on a million other fears or insecurities.

Because passing a stool during childbirth only affects women and at one of the most vulnerable times of our lives. Accidentally having a bowel movement during childbirth is embarrassing to most women and something that, if it happens, can be dealt with discreetly by trained professionals. It is not something that needs to be literally broadcast to the nation.

Society has taboo around pooing. Now Andrex wants to break those taboos - there are other ads like one about a child doing a poo at school. That's a controversial stand point imo and not everyone is ready for it. My daughter is autistic and struggles with crippling social anxiety (which is why she was at the cinema with me - she can't go out with friends because she doesn't have any). It wasn't like a tv ad you can turn off - we were in the cinema. Now she is scared of child birth and says her partner can't be present. Thanks Andrex!

I agree with you op. It doesn’t raise the dignity of women and it isn’t something I want to be reminded of when I’m watching a bit of telly or at the cinema. Will actively avoid Andrex from now on. Thank you for this thread.
