Recommendations for fantastic hotels in the Canary Islands (September)

Partner and I are going away in early September for a week. We’re late 40s / early 50s, no kids.

We’ve been looking at various places around the Med, and it looks like we can get a nicer hotel for our money in the Canaries.

Our priorities are:

  • quiet!! (no kids’ clubs or stag parties)
  • nice hotel (good service, nice restaurant if we choose to eat in)
  • multiple pools
  • access to a beach
  • ideally within walking distance or a short drive to a choice of other restaurants
  • decent spa would be great

Budget is about 800-1000 each incl flights. There are so many places that look fantastic in our price range and that are highly rated on tripadvisor, and I’m struggling to choose - hence I’m here looking for personal recommendations.

He’s had a shitty year at work, and I’m dealing with some health issues. We’d really like a lovely relaxing restorative break.

Tell me what you’d recommend!

Barcelo Playa Blanca, Lanzarote.

Although it does have a kids club which can easily be avoided if you don't have kids, it fits all other criteria. Really nice hotel.

Marina Suites Puerto Rico is nice but only one pool (it is infinity though on the edge of the sea and fabulous). Cordial Mogan Plays is another lovely hotel and Puerto Mogan is one of the prettiest resorts in the Canaries. Neither are adult only but they are not very child focused.

Radison Blu, Costa Teguise, Lanzarote.

The Sheridan in Calletta De Fuste in Fuerteventura is lovely.

Royal corales hideaway, La caleta, Tenerife

If you decide on Tenerife I agree with @JWRor Ritz Carlton Abama, Domes Baobab Suites (or Royal Garden Villas but £££).

Thank you all!! Loads of great suggestions here. Going to pour a cold glass of wine and browse photos of lovely pools :)

We've been to Cordial Mogan Playa, Gran Canaria without our DCs, it does have a kids club but low key, and there is a big quiet pool (enforced) well away from the main family one. Also a spa but we didn't use that. We did B&B, it's only 10 mins walk down to the beach/marina area with loads of restaurants and bars. The breakfast buffet was huge so we filled up on that or got snacks from the local supermarkets to eat on our balcony for lunch then ate out in the evenings. There were mixed reviews of the evening meals in the hotel and it had two fixed seating times which didn't work for us.

If you are looking at Barcelo Playa Blanca look at the adults only royal level. It’s a separate part but you can use the facilities of the family part as well.

Baobab with a private pool is great (they are heated) but we have also just come back from Bahía Del Duque which was also fantastic.

White Suites Playa Blanca Lanzarote. Adults only, lovely rooms and pool area, has a spa but I didn't use it. If you book HB, it's hardly any more than BB. Food was nice enough but not to my taste - I like to eat a lot of seafood on holiday, which didn't really feature, but that was my only complaint and not much of an issue as I had a good lunch while I was out and about and just had a drink and a bit of salad or similar in the restaurant in the evening. Walking distance to the beach and marina with lots of restaurants when you eat out. Also a good bus service from airport and other parts of Lanzarote for days out.

If you sign up to the H10 loyalty scheme for the discount and then book your flights separately, that will probably be cheaper than a package if you're OK just getting the bus from the airport.

Yes. One is. There are many and if you book a villa , you have your own and it will be heated.
