Very pale lips

Does anyone else have very pale lips? Sometimes they are so pale they just blend into my face and it looks like I don’t have a mouth! Occasionally they go a greyish blue colour.

Anyone have any ideas on how I can get a bit more colour into them? I’m fed up of looking like death.

I’ll try and add a photo…

Just checked and my Ferritin was 18 in March. Haemoglobin concentration was 129.

Whilst 18 is technically at the lower end of the normal range, anything below 50 you will experience symptoms of low iron, and 70-100 is considered optimal for women (google normal vs optimum ferritin levels in women to learn more). I'd start taking an iron supplement and I bet you will notice a difference in your lip colour within a few months. In the meantime I'd recommend Maybelline Superstay Matte Ink as a lip colour that lasts all day.

Sorry I thought I’d added a photo. I will try again.
it didn’t really hurt, some areas felt a bit tender but the numbing cream worked well.

Looks great! Much better than mine 😆

I’ll definitely get some iron too

I have low iron, even by NHS standards. Prescribed Sodifer because iron upsets my stomach, it's been really good. You can buy it without prescription.

I also use the wonderskin tint, only lasts a few hours for me but more natural than lipstick.

I love that lip blush!

Meadowflower2023 · 05/05/2026 22:11

@Springbuck They look amazing!

Meadowflower2023 · 05/05/2026 22:12

Forgot to add… The wonderskin doesn’t last for me also. A few hours at most.

I had lip blush done about 5 years ago and it’s now fading , the results were really good but be aware that if you’re prone to cold sores they advise that you take preventative measures a week before you have the lip blush . I wasn’t told about this and it caused 2 huge cold sores 1 on each lip top and bottom that took nearly 2 weeks to heal.
I couldn’t have the top up for about 6 weeks afterwards.
The results were very good but now it’s fading you can see where the sores were as the colour has all but disappeared .

I also have very pale lips. I use a peel off lip stain from Amazon but reading this thread I think I actually need to be better at taking my iron supplements!

I also have pale lips and I don't like wearing ordinary lipstick as it wears off so quickly. I was given some Clarins water lip stain which is great! They also do a coloured lip oil, which I haven't tried but which may help with both the dryness and the colour.

For days when I don't really want to look like I'm wearing lipstick I have a fat long-stay pencil that I bought from Asda. It's a very natural colour and doesn't dry out my lips.

Meadowflower2023 · 08/05/2026 15:54

@DilemmaDelilah which brand is the pencil
from please? I’m always looking for natural colours but they all seem to be the ones that last the least longest.

WorkCleanRepeat · 08/05/2026 16:57

Mine are like this. I got a lip blush. It didn't hurt at all.

DilemmaDelilah · 09/05/2026 10:12

@Meadowflower2023 it's a Maybelline Superstay Ink Crayon. The colour I use for everyday when I don't want to look like I'm wearing lipstick is a pinky beige.

You look anaemic to me. Mine are the same and I have low iron and B12 deficiency managed by injections.

Have you considered lipstick?
