Vinted problem :-(

I am a beginner in the world of Vinted.
Summary - I sold a handbag, very good condition. Buyer received bag and within an hour launched a complaint saying it was ‘very dirty’ and posted a pic of the inside which did NOT look like it did when I sent it! She asked for a partial refund. I asked her to return the bag and instigated that process and paid for the return. (Maybe I shouldn’t have done that?)
Then - I received a barrage of angry messages from the buyer saying that she was angry that I’d asked for her to return the bag, that she would try and clean it but wanted a partial refund and that I needed to be ‘moral’. I replied that I was surprised that it seems ‘very dirty’ as that is not my recollection and I have photos showing the bag was not ‘very dirty’ when I sent it. But I offered £5 off which she was not happy with (she paid £35 for the bag). Her messages then got very weird with vague threats that karma would find me, that something ‘bad’ was coming etc!
I just repeated ‘please post the bag back to me as per Vinted rules’ and I blocked her.
So…I’ve been in touch with Vinted and told them everything. My issue is that I don’t really want the bag back - I don’t trust that she hasn’t done something nasty to it. I seem to only be receiving AI replies from Vinted (block the buyer, she has 5 days to post the item etc) and I don’t think a real human is actually reading my messages.
What can I do, please?!

My current issue with Vinted is I can’t change my email address as I need that to confirm for my £30 month withdrawal. I hid my email on sign up and I don’t get any email notifications anywhere, but I need to get into the email they send me, so they’ll let me withdraw the £30 I’ve accumulated! Such a pain in the arse

That’s another thing - can she leave me a bad review?

If the item is sent back and if there are no issues the transaction is cancelled, they get a full refund and no feedback can be left by anyone as it is not a completed transaction.

If the transaction completes then feedback can be left by both.

You can also respond to any feedback left.

If you go into the help section on vinted it tells you how to change your email address and what to do if you cannot access the original one used when signing up.

I had to do this as I could not access the email address that I used to sign up and it was very easy and straightforward.

Sorted! Still had me raging for a good hour though 😂😂

I’ll definitely update! Thanks again for all replies.

UPDATE!
So, surprise surprise, she didn’t return the bag as requested. So I received the payment this morning and a refund for the postage I had paid, for the return label she didn’t use.
Can she still leave me a review in this situation? AI from Vinted says ‘no’ as the transaction was not completed, as in she failed to return the item. But the sale went through in the end…?
I’ve looked more closely at her feedback and she has done exactly this twice before. My fault for not checking reviews more carefully.

Bump!

She might, but if she does leave a review respond to it calmly, politely, and detail that she was abusive while demanding a partial refund, but when offered a full refund on return of goods she kept the item.

More often than not when reading feedback its the response to low stars that either reassures or rings alarm bells.

Honestly i wouldnt waste any more time worrying about it/her.

SilenceInside · 08/05/2026 14:38

It’s not quite the same scenario but I recently had a transaction where the item I sold was lost by the delivery company. Eventually the buyer and I both were compensated and the transaction was cancelled. I can’t review her as a buyer and I think she can’t review me as a seller.

Even if she can somehow review you and leaves a negative review, a calm detailed response outlining the evidence and what happened will help. I don’t begrudge sellers if they have had a run in with a mad buyer and get a single poor review. It says more about the buyer than the seller in that situation!

Rachelshair · 08/05/2026 14:59

That's good that you got the money. She will be able to leave you a review, but you can leave her one too.

StevieNickNicks · 08/05/2026 15:47

Clearly a scammer so hopefully she'll not bother leaving a review because she'll be busy looking for her next victim after it didn't work on you. Doubt she'll want to draw attention to her shittyness by getting into a review slanging match.. glad you got paid OP 😊

Thanks all!!

I sent a reasonably expensive skirt in perfect condition. I instantly got messages and photos with it all ripped. I had heard of these stories before so I didn’t correspond with the person directly but went straight to vinted.

I had the photos and the metadata to show I had taken it a few days before listing and I was sure they had used AI to create the damage.

customer services actually took action and asked them to send new and clear photos within 48 hours.

funnily enough they didn’t. So I got paid.

just go straight to customer services with any evidence you have of the condition before you sent it and see what they say. At no point did the correspond with the buyer.

they did leave a stinking review but I ignored it. Looked weirdly out of place amongst all the top reviews.

CoralTrout · 10/05/2026 16:36

Hi OP. I had the exact same issue except I offered a refund with a seller paid return as I knew the item was perfect when sent. The seller went crazy angry at me on messages - losing thier mind really so I said let Vinted decide. Got this response - so basically Vinted are finding in favour of scammers. Thinking of closing my account and going back to eBay!

CoralTrout · 10/05/2026 16:39

Sorry now with photo.

ANOTHER UPDATE
She did indeed leave a review - exactly as I expected, heaping criticisms onto me and even saying that I was ‘rude and arrogant’ in my messages which is such a steaming lie!
I replied very calmly with the facts and advised people to avoid her.
I have also left her a review, again very calm and simply stating the facts and that she has done this three times now (as can be seen in her reviews).
