Is Devon or Dorset really as lovely as it seems?

Is Devon as absolutely stunning as it seems if you’ve never been?

I have developed an interest in Devon/Dorset as a place to travel to, maybe Weymouth. Are these places as lovely as they seem or am I as a tourist who lives in the north west of England romanticising it?
I love beaches and villages, especially places with painted buildings and beach huts.

We had a gorgeous time at Knoll Beach, Studland last summer. Stayed up on a hill above Swanage. Stunning sunrises and sunsets.

Dorset and Devon are places to pass through on the way to Cornwall.

I love near the Dorset/Devon border - Charmouth, Lyme Regis, Bridport and over into Sidmouth. It's lovely.

Yes beautiful but so is the north east coast (we’re on holiday in Northumberland at the moment!)

Go in spring/summer. I locumed there in winter, expecting loveliness...steep sided valleys that never saw sunlight Nov-Mar and fog was a bit too much of a Hound of the Baskervilles vibe for me.

I couldn't agree more! Absolutely adore Dorset! Durdle Door and Lulworth Cove are just some of the highlights. When you visit try and get on a boat ride to see them up close. There is Old Harry's Rocks as well in Poole.

Yes, love Dorset and moved here to raise our family. Beautiful but also very active communities.

Devon is fantastic! It has its good places and its less good places, same as anywhere. You can get to the South East of Devon easily by motorway. North Devon is absolutely beautiful but harder to get to. Dorset isn't near the motorway so it can be difficult to get to.
