Do you sit on a public toilet seat or hover?

I’ve never got the hang of hovering even though I have fairly strong thighs. Increasingly I’m seeing pee on the floor or seat in public toilets (not just in outdoor buildings but train stations, shopping centres etc.) which makes me think more women are hovering nowadays - which in turn seems to actually be making toilets/seats dirtier. I would love it if they all had the spray dispenser in the cubicle to wipe the seat but I very rarely see this.

So, do you hover and if so how do you do it while not touching any part of the toilet with your clothes and relaxing enough to get all the pee out? I was also going to ask how you aim into the toilet but it seems like a lot people can’t manage that bit!

So why do it if you're washing your hands afterwards? What do you think is going to happen?

i just prefer to touch the least amount of things possible so that there’s less chance of bacteria transfer. If a toilet is flushed the particles go through the air so the flush could be very dirty, I’d rather just not touch it.

I hate when people close the lids on public toilet seats for the next person to then have to touch the toilet unnecessarily to lift them back up again. Why do people do this? Force of habit from home?

GrapeSorbet · Yesterday 15:46

I still clean my shopping though as well so I have extreme views on this kind of thing. I have emetophobia.

But you're going to wash your hands? The particles are probably flying all over your clothing and shoes too.

I put the lid down at home before flushing, but a lot of public bathrooms don't have lids.

I still think it's pretty inconsiderate to put your shoes on the flush handle.

That’s why I change when I get home . To be honest I avoid using public toilets unless I have to so it’s not a regular occurrence only when I really have to !

I sit, because I'm going to shower and change clothes anyway.
What I am careful of is touching taps or door handles with clean hands especially if it's a unisex toilet.

henlake7 · Yesterday 15:52

I usually just sit unless it is really rank then I hover (I weight train 3 times a week so hovering is no problem!).
I worry more about taps and door handles TBH.

sunnydisaster · Yesterday 15:52

Of course I sit. Nearly 55 and never ‘caught’ anything from a toilet seat. People are bonkers.

OnlyTomSaidThat · Yesterday 15:54

Since childbirth I now pee upwards, if I hovered I'd spray the door 🤣

I sit, do what I need to and carry on with my life.

Disturbia81 · Yesterday 16:11

Never hovered, I just wipe the seat with paper

My stepmum always said you can tell how clean a restaurant's kitchen is by looking at the state of their loos. I've never forgotten it!

It’s true and it’s not true. The thing is if a restaurant has spotless toilets and no designated cleaning staff, the staff who are serving your food are cleaning the toilets in between serving you. Sometimes I can’t decide which is worse. As a teen I worked in a restaurant where the boss was fastidious about the state of the toilets . On a busy Saturday night when people were vomiting from drinking too much and missing the toilet because they were so drunk , we’d be mopping vomit and diarrhea splattered toilets whenever their was a quiet lapse in service 🤢. Lots of years ago . I’m praying this is no longer legal.

DevilsKitchen · Yesterday 16:44

I sit because I find I can’t empty my bladder properly otherwise. I always wipe the toilet seat with a bit of soap or hand sani first

BillieWiper · Yesterday 19:11

I can't say I've ever hovered and consequently left wee on the seat? But I guess some might. I mean I'd obviously clean it up if I did.

I tend to sit if it's a restaurant/pub/cafe and the toilets look and smell very recently cleaned.

I would hover at a more public or heavily used location like a hospital, train station, most fast food places like McDonald's, actual public standalone loo block etc. Or just somewhere with unloved/old/shabby and somewhat unsanitary seeming loos.

yonem · Yesterday 19:15

I sit. I’m plenty capable of hovering and have used squat toilets many a time but I don’t see the point. Just put some loo roll on the seat if you’re fussed.

CaptBirdsEar · Yesterday 19:18

If I hover I pee my pants so I wipe the seat with loo paper and sit.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · Yesterday 19:20

I just fucking sit on it. I'm not going to get bum rabies, ffs...

Bum rabies 😂

Liberancho · Yesterday 19:49

I would never ever sit on a public toilet seat - even if covered in paper.

In fact the thought of it is revolting.

honeyfox · Yesterday 19:49

Why would you hover? I'm too short to do it and I've never had a kidney infection in my life!

FFS

If you ‘need’ 🙄to hover, at least lift the bleeding seat…

Oh no! 😬 Maybe I wish I hadn't read this after all 😂

Riapia · Yesterday 20:06

Whether to sit or hover is decided after checking the seat. If the seat has a crack in it I hover, I’ve trapped my arse on a cracked seat once before.
Very painful. 😟😟😟.

Hover

The people making a mess are not hovering women, they are men who have sneaked in and are making a point.
