I am watching an episode of One Foot in the Grave, and the Meldrews have the same duvet cover we do. Not only that, but ours in on our bed right now, and I've just checked - the episode was first broadcast in 1993.

Blimey, I knew some of our bedding was old, but I didn't realise it was that old.😂

I still have my first duvet cover, from around 1983. Took it from my mum's flat when she died, the kids have used it quite a bit as it's 100% cotton and a soft clouds pattern.

We are still using the duvet covers we were given as wedding presents nearly 40 years ago!

Ah - but have they been on television??

I feel I should point out that Richard Wilson was 53 when that series started.

Oh, thank you very much for that - he was a year younger than I am now!! 😱

Curlygirl06 · 24/04/2026 23:40

I was watching A Place in the Sun/ Escape to the Country, can't remember which, and my duvet was on the TV too! I got very excited.

However, Eddie Izzard was in the paper once in a lovely pink M and S coat, and it was exactly the same as the one I'd bought just a few weeks ago AND he had better legs than me!

Dontlletmedownbruce · 24/04/2026 23:43

Monica in friends wore an evening dress that looked identical to one I had the same year. It had a distinctive feature on the front and it wasn't a trending thing at the time as far as I'm aware. Let's just say she wore it better..

I still have a duvet cover from Next circa 1988, going strong. Towels too from Debenhams (dark coloured). Very good quality.

I never liked BHS clothes because they weren't great quality but their duvet covers were.

I agree with that apart fro.
M Their tights they made amazing tights that didnt split.

Op it means your duvert cover is vintage and on trend 😁

I still have and use the duvet cover I got from Habitat for my 18th birthday. I'm 52!

I have a bath towel I bought from Next in 2001 and it’s still going strong! Not been on tv though

I have my childhood striped towel - vintage circa 1970. I used it for swimming lessons, and to take on holidays too. It is in the loft somewhere, and I can't bring myself to part with it.

My mum pulled out a towel for the dog the other day. It was my old school swimming swimming towel from 1991! It still had my name tape sewn to it Grin

Has anyone ever had a duvet cover wear out? One of mine is a bit bally and has some buttons missing from the bottom. Is that worn out now?

I bought a top from Evans and wore it until someone saw Nellie Dingle wearing the same one

OMG you are my people! I was traumatised by my favourite top being worn by Heather Trott in East Enders

Yes I’ve had similar and also meant that I would never wear the top again lol

My mum bought me a jumper for Christmas when I was a teenager and Pauline Fowler from Eastenders was wearing an identical one

My DD19 uses a duvet cover and pillow cases from when I was a teen. They’ve outlasted a good few much newer ones…

begone25 · Today 07:49

I’ve only just retired my teenage duvet set that my children have been using. It was from Habitat in the 80’s when they used to import them from Sweden, amazing quality cotton! The pillowcases sadly didn’t last quite as long, due to my use of Oxy acne cream!

FigurativelyDying · Today 08:10

When I stay at my mum’s I sleep under a single duvet with a cover with a bright orange geometric design that my little brother had on his bed when he was about 7. In the late 60s or early 1970s! In the days when they called duvets continental quilts. See also ancient towels that have been washed so often they are like sandpaper. Also at least 50 years old

fudgesmummy · Today 14:38

@FettchYeSandbagges not yet! 😆

grafittiartist · Today 15:16

We have bedding from the 80’s too. Still feels great!
One foot in the grave is one of my favourite comedies btw!

Definitely not. Maybe buy a lint shaver, and sew some more buttons on?

I once saw my NDN wearing one of Hyacinth Bucket's outfits - i didn't have the heart to tell her. 😂

On an episode of Poirot I saw my antique lady lamp! It was my great grandparents and I inherited it.

ViciousCurrentBun · Today 19:47

I have the pillowcases from the first duvet set that DH and I bought together in 1997. It was from John Lewis and for the time was really expensive, it was £100.
