Anyone else unsure whether they actually like chocolate?

I had a bar of milk chocolate the other day. Not the grotty palm oil variety. I didn't enjoy it at all and told dh I don't like chocolate anymore and I am now a non chocolate eater. Except, I'm not sure. I've always liked chocolate. I like black forest gateau. I don't like brownies or chocolate ice cream though. I like a hot chocolate, but not chocolate milk shake. I like chocolate peanuts and raisins, but not chocolate brazils, in spite of loving brazil nuts.

Anyone else not sure whether they actually like it? 😂

Will not eat chocolate containing palm oil because of the devastating effects on the rainforest. Leaves me with quite a small selection, still like it but not as much as I used to.

TwistedWonder · 04/04/2026 19:57

I like the flavour of chocolate but not the texture. My mouth feels slimy when I eat it

I’ll eat a chocolate brownie or something like that but not a chocolate bar.

chateauneufdupapa · 04/04/2026 20:07

I love it in pretty much all its forms. Chocolate cake is overrated perhaps but that’s usually a fault with the recipe, as it often doesn’t taste chocolatey enough

I love chocolate. Always have. Used to be milk only but now pretty much all dark. Like @Moveyourbleedingarse I eat it everyday (although not quite 90%, probably 70%+) I love Montezuma chocolate buttons, milk 37% and dark 70%. Hotel Chocolate is pretty good too. I probably spend too much on it.

SpringAndSunshineIsHere · 04/04/2026 20:26

Nope. I am certain that I love it.

Tenniswhites · 04/04/2026 20:31

No uncertainty here, I absolutely love chocolate-I agree the use of palm oil has altered the taste and am less keen on some nowadays.

Tony’s is currently my favourite but managed to force down a crème egg earlier!

1000StrawberryLollies · 04/04/2026 20:39

I love chocolate. Only milk chocolate really, but not shitty palm oil laden stuff. It doesn't have to be expensive- Moser Roth from Aldi is good. I also love chocolate cake, chocolate brownies etc, though I can't have gluten, which limits me a bit. I can't tolerate too much dairy either, so I can't go mad on the milk chocolate! I don't like hot chocolate though - too milky and sickly.

YerMotherWasAHamster · 04/04/2026 20:48

I used to love it.
I keep wanting to have some and thinking I'll love it
Then I have it and am disappointed.
I want some really nice proper chocolate. I've tried all sorts and they all taste wrong and are needlessly claggy.

MarchionessVonSausage · 04/04/2026 23:49

Not a fan. I'll have the odd Lindt ball on the rare occasion I want something sweet but that's it.

Give me a bag of salt & vinegar chips instead thankyouverymuch!

I am really not very keen on bars of milk chocolate, like Cadbury's Dairy Milk or Galaxy, for example. I DO like chocolate in a chocolate cake, chocolate brownies are one of my favourites. I love hot chocolate, although not too fond of chocolate milkshake. And I do like dark chocolate, like Green and Black's. The higher the cocoa solids content, the better!

blackheartsgirl · 05/04/2026 04:10

I love chocolate, but not chocolate cake, hot chocolate, cheesecake, chocolate ice cream etc

i do love a well made brownie though. The Costco ones are lovely

HelpMeGetThrough · 05/04/2026 05:38

I can take it or leave it. My mum and dad have bought me an Easter egg (I’m 54!!!), chances are it’ll be here unopened for months.

CrushingOnRubies · 05/04/2026 11:41

I like chocolate in small amounts. I find Easter eggs etc quite daunting to eat. Chocolate cake gives me migraines and that puts me off somewhat. Love chocolate biscuits

Your tastes are eerily similar to mine . In fact I could have written your post
I don’t like brownies , chocolate ice cream or chocolate milkshake but love hot chocolate and Black Forest gateau
I used to love chocolate but the horrible palm oil has put me off
i havent eaten an Easter egg since I was eight as I fell ill after indulging in too many Cadburys cream eggs

Eclipser · 05/04/2026 13:22

I’m an addict. Each time I’ve given it up for a while and had some after a break, I’ve thought that it wasn’t actually particularly nice. But then I’m hooked again and I think I love it.

Specialagentblond · 05/04/2026 13:38

A lot of people don’t like chocolate. It’s no big deal.

I've gone off it in the last few years. Used to like it but now I'm really not bothered. Never buy it and take ages to get through any Christmas or birthday chocolates.

I still like chocolate biscuits, brownies etc but am equally happy with a nice plain biscuit like a good piece of shortbread

Bumply · 28/04/2026 22:50

I like chocolate, but if I had to choose between that and marmite on toast it would be the latter for me.

Emmamorgannn · 25/05/2026 08:19

I don’t actually like chocolate that much either, but one of my friends recently introduced me to a sugar-free chocolate from Coco Polo Bliss and I surprisingly liked it too. I think the fact that it has no added sugars and is vegan-friendly and organic made it feel a lot lighter compared to regular chocolate.
