51 year old, menopausal, struggling to get over a sinus infection and feel like crap. Not on HRT (long story). Still don’t have my sense of smell back after a month, and still blowing out gunk (sorry) and feel like I am functioning on 80% energy levels. We go away next Wednesday for a special family holiday and I really need a quick fix!

Metatone Tonic. Orange bottle and not cheap but it never fails!

can you still get this, I thought it was discontinued? If you can it’s the best tonic ever OP

Thecows · 29/03/2026 21:56

People really shouldn't be recommending B12 etc unless the OP actually has a deficiency. Same with the madness that is taking electrolytes every day, where on earth this has sprung from I just can't fathom. You could overdose on potassium or anything else that you're not actually short of.

A large percentage of brits are deficient in vit D and it can make you feel awful. You can get tests cheaply on Amazon.

Oh - don’t know. Our kids are uni age now so less prone to bringing diseases home so haven’t had to buy any for ages. Hope not, it was always such a pick me up!

@VoltaireMittyDream which NAC do you use?

Magnesium before bed helps me get to sleep quickly and I get more deep sleep according to my fit bit, b vitamin complex in the mornings and an electrolyte/hydration drink every day and a conscious effort to drink enough water and I actually feel better
I loved mushroom supplements made me feel twenty years younger and so switched on but have since been diagnosed with a heart condition and haven't been able to check with cardiology if it's ok, GP didn't know but bvits and magnesium fine, I also take iron but that's because I often err on the side of anaemic

Which mushroom supplement please

Nothing.
If you are worried that you are deficient in something such as iron, vitamins then you need this checked via a blood test and you can then take the correct treatment.
Otherwise you are just throwing your money into the void of the wellness industry.

This really. Or drinking something that gives you sugar and caffeine….

good nights sleep, some fresh air. Vit D and sublingual b12 (I don’t absorb it well) are al I take.

Neilmed sinus rinse

No it's high doses of B vitamins and quite high dose of C.

I take together health b complex which is half the dose of berrocca. (You could take two) and a separate slow release vit c and zinc (when I remember) Simply as it’s more natural/ no aspartame

ferroglobin is similar

I dont seem to either. Nor folate. I heard Tim Spector doesn’t either on a random podcast (maybe his 😁)

So I sometimes add a sublingual b12 and extra together health folate. Don’t need the b12 as much at the moment since I got my levels up.

In all honesty the quickest fix that I’d do would be some brisk daily walks (3 a day) and try to breathe through your nose during them, steaming your head, loads of water and some hot ginger and tumeric drinks. And dark chocolate.

Also look at butyeko breathing techniques. This is a free app and there’s one video for clearing your nose that works really well and quickly too.

I take Ors, they’re like a form of diorylite that seems to give me a huge boost the day I take them, dissolve two in water

Sonny36 · 30/03/2026 20:05

From the health shop or online, oregano oil is called natures antibiotic.

I'm in the same boat OP...had sinus infection.following a chest infection. Had an xray which came back normal. Took antibiotics and steroids but still waking up every morning completely stuffed up. Sense of smell and taste fluctuating all the time for the last month. I'm so over it. Am using saline rinses every day and have just started taking NAC supplement so hoping it works. I'm also menopausal! I definitely think there's a connection. Have a doc appt in a couple of weeks but not sure there's much they can do!
