Well done that fella. Next level communication skills, cool under pressure, courage in the face of mortal danger. Chapeau.

A man in his 30s looks straight at the camera. He is wearing an outdoor jacket, hooded top and is wearing a baseball cap branded 'Zavetti'. He has a neat ginger beard and goatee. His hair is shaved short.

Nathan Newby, who used kindness to persuade the "lone-wolf terrorist" to abandon his plan, is being awarded the George Medal.

Long live Nathan Newby!
Not only is he a true hero who prevented a horrible terrorist attack but is a truly beautiful human being and example, by recognizing that all people deserve respect and can change their minds to do the right thing if given a chance.

What a remarkable human being. I noted he has cystic fibrosis 😢 He has not spoken publicly about the event - utterly selfless. And what a great way to understand the disturbed mind of the terrorist. I can’t believe what I’ve just read.

Perhaps that ‘weakness’ is part of his strength - he may well have considered his own mortality much more than most people of his age , for one thing.

Heard he was there with a chest infection although perhaps a reference to his CF .
But my point is that he wasn't even well.
What must he be like when well!

What an amazing man! It’s a fantastic story. In addition to the George medal in recognition of his bravery I hope some wealthy people contribute a substantial amount of money to set him up for life.

This made me cry too. And I’m a tough old bird! The fact that the guy asked for a hug.
We need this kind of story right now in a time when hatred and divisions seem to be all around us,and in the world powers.
