Would you wake a 10 week old from a nap!?

Mines just slept for 2 and a half hours, only just woken up.
Would you just leave at this age?

I would just leave them, personally think babies make their own rules and it's pointless trying to second guess them.

deepbreathseveryone · 18/03/2026 18:58

Yes absolutely! I'd check breathing, sleep position and colour and then enjoy the break. Growth spurts can take it out of them.

WellOodelally · 18/03/2026 18:58

I don’t think I have ever woken either of mine from a nap. Well that’s a lie actually, danger naps in the car, I’m not having that 😂 but otherwise I just hear my mum in my head saying ‘well they do all their growing when they’re asleep!’

2 and a half hours is not excessive. Keep an eye, but unless there are feeding and weight issues or you’re attempting to create a routine, never wake a sleeping baby!
Enjoy the peace.

I agree to leave him be, just worry he’s having too long too late but I know things change all the time.

Yes, leave baby to nap.

jackiesgirl · 18/03/2026 20:31

Wouldn’t wake him at that age, mine used to sleep for hours in the afternoon sometimes. Go and get your head down yourself or get your housework done

TenTenTenAgain · 18/03/2026 20:31

Unless the baby is on a feeding schedule I wouldn't wake them.

Bitzee · 18/03/2026 20:32

Personal choice really! With mine I never let them sleep more than 2 hours or go more than 3 without a feed so that they slept through overnight. But it’s not necessary or anything.

WarmHare · 18/03/2026 20:42

So long as baby wasn’t pre-term & is steadily gaining weight then leave them, never let mine sleep longer than 3.5 hours between 6am - 6pm due to wanting them to have as many feeds in the day as possible with the hope of them feeding less during the night…. It didn’t work 😂 I should have just let them sleep.

AnonKat · 18/03/2026 20:46

My 13 week old have a 2 hour nap most afternoons. Has a feed as soon as he wakes. Never impacts anything. He has started sleeping through the night this week aswell.

Sometimes I will Co-sleep during that nap, so i can nap aswell.

Zingerella · 18/03/2026 21:05

I never wake a sleeping baby (unless they’re jaundiced and have to be fed more frequently).

My youngest two used to nap for 4h plus. They barely woke up until they were 4ish months old.

Dobequiet · 18/03/2026 21:07

No, he’s new and tired.

Congratulations!

JLMA · 18/03/2026 21:08

Baby is only 10 weeks. I’d just let sleeping babies lie

Never try to create a routine either. That way madness lies!!

Hatty65 · 18/03/2026 21:17

Would I fuck! Are you insane?

Leave sleeping children to lie. And sleep yourself if you can.

ellecf · 18/03/2026 21:20

I’d enjoy it and do something nice for yourself. I sometimes have to wake my second up to pick first one up from preschool and I absolutely hate it, especially when she’s in the deepest most delicious sleep. I always think if they sleep longer it’s because they really need it for whatever reason. I have had two good sleepers though and really do appreciate when that absolutely doesn’t work for some parents/babies if it means nights are awful and rhythms are off. At 10 months anything still goes though!

This so sums up newborn life!

marcyhermit · 18/03/2026 21:29

I never let mine sleep more than 3 hours in the day.
Once they were about 16 weeks, I would wake them up from their last nap at least 2 hours before bedtime.

Just shows everyone is different. From about 4 months on a routine was what kept me sane. Both my girls had their own routines. Worked really well for us.

user2848502016 · 18/03/2026 21:57

No, not at 10 weeks just enjoy the break

Lavender14 · 18/03/2026 21:59

They aren't on any type of schedule at that age so I wouldn't wake, just check on them. I breastfed and was trying to get ds weight up at that age so in that scenario I did have to wake him in order to feed but if all is well otherwise then it's okay.

nowayho · 19/03/2026 02:26

no, not at 10 weeks. I only started waking them from naps once it began to affect their night time sleep, which I think was maybe closer to a year old.

wishIwasonholiday10 · 19/03/2026 04:44

I would wake for a feed after 3 hrs as I want to make sure they are getting plenty during the day but wouldn’t worry about it affecting night time sleep.

wyntersky · 19/03/2026 06:28

The only time I woke mine from naps was when they got to about 1 1/2 yrs old and it was from their afternoon nap. I'd let them have 2 hours and then I'd wake them up before 3PM or else they'd not go down to sleep until late.

At 10 weeks let them nap as long as they need I say.
