Thinking about getting Starlink - does anyone here use it?

We’re considering switching to Starlink as our broadband is pretty rubbish where we live. From what I understand it’s satellite internet so you install a dish and it connects directly to satellites rather than using the normal phone line.

I’ve read mixed things online – some people say it’s brilliant if you’re in a rural area and can get decent speeds, but others say it can be expensive and not always that reliable.

If you have it:
• Is it actually good in real life?
• What sort of speeds do you get?
• Any issues with dropouts or bad weather?
• Is it worth the cost?

Would love to hear real experiences before we commit as the equipment isn’t cheap. Thanks!

I would literally rather chew my own leg off than give that man my money. Why do people live with their heads up their arses?

Because it is literally the only option if you live in a rural area with no 5G coverage and need better than 1990s-style internet service.

We have it as we are in the countryside and no other provider seems to manage to provide internet here. We are impressed. Very fast speed.
It has dropped out of say 3 times over the past year - 2 due to storms and one we just needed to reset it.
Otherwise it Just Works.

Sometimes there's no other option. Can you really not understand that?

Personally, we find it's by far the affordable, fastest unlimited internet option where we live, and we haven't had any major issues in several years. A couple of nearly global drop outs that have lasted an hour or two, but that's it. It's fine for video calling, streaming, but isn't the best for gaming.

If possible, I think it's good to wait until they have a sale on the dish - we got ours when it was a quarter the usual price.

I don't like Elon Musk's politics, but I can't fault his internet services! And I think it's silly and very privileged for people to wah on about how they'd never give a company he profits from their money when they have other options (clearly, or they wouldn't be online)!

Don't be stupid. Obviously you wouldn't literally chew your own leg off. And I bet if your options were Starlink or no internet whatsoever, your high and mighty morals would vanish pretty damn quick.
