Marathon runners - what did you feel like after?

I mean, immediately after? I am wondering what I need to have handy (salty snacks? warm clothes regardless of weather? that kind of thing.) Also, will I be capable (or likely to be capable) of making plans for the evening / later in the afternoon?

I've done 4 marathons and have generally been fine afterwards and able to do things in the afternoon or evening. Often flopping on the sofa after a run makes me feel groggy. As others have said I don't feel like eating immediately after but having something like a milkshake can help you recover. Shower (oooh if you have any chafing) and clean clothes will perk you up. I've got Leeds marathon in may and it's lovely to hear all the post marathon stories. Good luck with yours - you'll be great.

For your drop bag - flip flops, spare socks. A battery pack in case your phone dies and a jumper. Make light plans, you'll be capable but knackered.
