Small things that irritate you

But you accept shouldn’t?

Someone has parked their car outside my house for the past 6-7 months and haven’t moved it even once. It’s taxed and MOT’d, so can’t do anything about it. I know it’s a small thing and I know it shouldn’t annoy me, but it is oddly irritating.

People saying "myself" and "yourself" instead of me and you in a misguided attempt to sound more formal or polite

The word "poorly". My hatred for that word is completely irrational and extreme

Nails clacking on a keyboard

People that don't turn the keyboard tones on their phone off

People who walk behind the car when I'm trying to reverse in a carpark even though they probably haven't noticed

People who do their weekly shop while parked at the pump

The Dominos advert

The Fevertree adverts

Dropping things

People who say “selling because it’s too big for me now” on Vinted.

a) usually a stealth boast and b) has an undertone of “if you’re still as fat as I used to be it’ll be perfect for you”

Creu · 07/03/2026 10:11

@TokyoSushi that does seem like a very wanky thing to say.

That’s a bit odd.

People whistling or sniffing.

Sniffing is something you should not accept

I get irritated by people in supermarkets, who stand there watching all their shopping go through the til and then start hunting in their bag for their cards or purse. Often with an “oh, do you have to pay” look on their face.

I have encountered a man in Aldi twice this week who wound me up no end.

He handed me my receipt on both occasions and said ‘there you go ‘Me Dear’.

He must be aged about 27-32. I am 43. My dear?? Fucking hell. Makes me feel like a decrepit old lady.

Jamfirstest · 07/03/2026 17:25

The whole branding and aesthetic of Morrisons. It’s this over familiar 90’s thing ‘lovely to see you bye’ over the exit door gives me the rage

Yes, there's a lot of 'young people' who seem to be using 'old people' familiarities all of a sudden. it's probably some TikTok nonsense.

It's like no-one between 25 and 70 would call someone 'me dear' (round here, my DF who would be over 80 now called everyone 'love' including men, which got a few funny looks on the rare occasions he travelled outside Yorkshire) but I was served in a shop not so long ago and the early 20 something assistant called me 'love' which felt a bit weird, because I've not heard it so much recently.

Betterthantherichesofthisworld · 08/03/2026 00:24

Might well be regional, as you say. "My love" common across generations here.

CherrySparkling · 10/03/2026 15:05

OP, you can report the car as abandoned if it's been there that long, even if it has tax and mot.

People yawning without covering their mouth.

Also people coughing without covering their mouths. Makes me so mad.

You must be able to see my Road, OP!

Got 2 cars been stuck here since (1) last June… cheeky bastard SORNed it Jan 1st so it’s sat there, totally illegally and taking up a space all that time. It’s even going mouldy now😵‍💫
Apparently the Council & DVLA are involved and it should be gone shortly.
Car (2) dumped outside my house since November 20th… Tax runs out in May.
Damn nuisance to be honest, you can just never get close enough to our own car to hoover it out, sort out the dog covers etc, it’s just a bloody pain.

Who buys cars to just dump them? Never seemingly returning to them, just letting them rot?

Oh, I almost forgot.. just up the road, a rusty motorbike has appeared… forlorn and unloved in all the rain…no apparent owner who needs it! 🤷‍♀️

This is just a nice ordinary street, not tucked away, it’s fairly close to a main road, nothing special…God knows why we are “ the chosen street”

Update!!

The blue car moved last week!! I shot out like a rocket and moved ours over and starting hoovering it!! Oh what joy!😀 The blue car reappeared down the road - but thankfully nowhere near anyones house… it’s all v strange!
The motorbike continues to rust quietly away in thr 24hr it rain🤷‍♀️ And the process of shifting the rotting white car is apparently “ongoing”. Makes you wonder what on earth the DVLA or whoever would (or could) do if we all just stopped paying Road tax?
I mean, that white car has been SORNED since beginning of the year - and still sits there!!
