I’ve no savings

I’m in my early 40’s and don’t have any savings due to raising my children and working term time hours. I am now in a position to save a little a month but I feel like I’ve completely missed the boat with saving a nest egg for later in life. Am I in the minority with not having any savings? How much should I look to put away each month from now on?

Once you have a better savings pot for emergencies get into the stock market

Take the threads on here about people having 100k+ worth of savings with a huge pinch of salt.

Why? It’s far from unobtainable for someone or a couple earning a decent middle class income for 30 years+.
And despite your and pp comments, as someone “in the middle” observing all these money related threads I would say the overwhelming majority of posters on the money forums are low earners, relatively few people comments on earning 70k+, or having 100k in savings. And if they do, i believe them. I’m one of them.

I have no savings, no spare money each month, no real prospects of every earning any more. It is what it is.

I have a least 500k savings. I squirrel away at least 4k a month because I earn a hefty wedge.

I also worry constantly about money and plead poverty often. I hate dipping my had in my pocket in pubs and restaurants- so rarely do I go- except when someone else is paying.
I buy all my clothes off eBay and charity shops and I basically live like a pauper.
I do have a 2 mil house though and a cleaner. Fuck the cleaning.

Do I bollocks.. 🤣🤣🤣

If you get universal credit then increase your workplace pension as it doesn't count as savings.
