What time on average do your 8yr olds go to bed?

DD8 has taken to waking at 5.30-5.45am every day without fail for the past few months. Ideally we’d like her to be waking at 6.30-7.

We’ve tried a gro clock, setting an alarm on her alexa, but once she’s up she’s up and playing noisily in her room or going downstairs to watch tv which disturbs everyone else.

Occasional late nights don’t seem to affect the wake up time, so I’m thinking we need to shift her regular bedtime later.

She has been typically going to bed around 7pm. This weekend we’ve trialled 8pm. So far no change in the get up time but we will continue to see if it takes a while to have an impact.

So, when do your 8yr olds tend to go to bed?

7.30, up at 5.30-6. Unless cubs or swimming night when it is 8.15. This works for us. I'd rather prioritise his sleep, plus they're at breakfast club at 7.30am to 7.45 depending on my work schedule, so it means we're not too stressed for time in the mornings.
We're all 'early to bed, early to rise' type anyway.

7.5 year old 6.30 -6.45pm - he’s asleep in minutes
11.5 year old 8pm - she’s usually asleep by 8.30

both sleep until 6.30am

11 year old sometime stays up until 8.30pm on weekend with us downstairs. Or potters about upstairs.

My 8 yr old has been on the same sleep schedule for a few years now. Wake up around 7am, go to sleep around 9pm

I’ve got a night owl 8 year old. She’s happily still awake now and I have to wrestle her out of bed at 8am. Luckily I work from home and she goes to school a 3 minute walk away. Anything we have done to try and get her to sleep earlier has failed, it just doesn’t happen.

Megifer · 01/03/2026 21:58

At that age mine would be up to bed at about 9pm, asleep for around 9.30pm, up at 7-7.30am

HawthornFairy · 01/03/2026 21:59

My DD is up at 7.00am every single morning, bedtime is 7.30 and lights out completely is by 8.30pm.
She has autism and is often awake earlier but knows she must be very quiet in her room - books or art/crafts that’s it.

CarCarTruckJeep · 01/03/2026 22:00

Asleep usually between 7.50 and 8.10ish. occasionally earlier if very tired, once a week not until about 8.30 because of an evening hobby class. Have to wake them at 7.15 on school days, weekends usually sleeps in until about 7.45 or so.

Rockfordpeach · 01/03/2026 22:03

Weekdays DS8 is in his room at 730, in bed 745, lights out 8pm. Awake 7am latest
Fridays he is later in bed at 914, lights out 930 as he has cubs
Weekends he tends to go to bed normal weekday time as hes so tired from football and rugby but is up at 6am ( no idea why!!) We have no screens before 8am on weekends

Bedtime is slipping to 7:45/8 lately (has older bro who stays up til 9ish and a little sis who takes our time at bedtime as she’s a pickle! So he’s often waiting for us to tuck him in bless him). He falls asleep instantly and gets up around 6/6:30. He’s always been a spectacular sleeper and the early wake ups don’t bother us.

sorryIdidntmeanto · 01/03/2026 22:41

Up at 8pm, asleep by 9pm. She wakes up about 7.45am

HowMuchIsThatDoggyInTheWindow123 · 01/03/2026 22:44

Go up at 7.45 , brush teeth , read for an hour. Light off just before 9pm . However often awake still at 10pm or later.
I wake them at 7.20am

Catnaaaaap · 01/03/2026 22:54

9.30ish

PutTheScrewInTheTuna · 01/03/2026 23:00

Gets ready for bed by 7pm (brush teeth, pjs etc) play/ watch tv upstairs until 8pm when dc gets into bed. Can read if they want to until lights out at 8.30pm. They wake up at about 7am everyday, but they’re really good about going to sleep with no protests.
