I’m quite new to the brass band world, I play 3rd cornet in a third section band. Taking part in my first area contest in Stevenage in March (London and Southern Counties).

Anyone else?

@IbizaToTheNorfolkBroadsYou won’t regret it - lots of fun. Flugel is a fabulous instrument and often a very desirable seat in a brass band - and has a lot of solos - so maybe it would be good to start on cornet and work up to flugel )if you’re starting from scratch).

And also, there is a brass band version of ‘Life on Mars’!

There is! Think it's still in our fete folders!

We're off to Ghent in a couple of weeks. I do not feel ready. Got 2 concerts and then a service at Menin Gate.

@InflagranteDelicto I’m envious of your Menin Gate job, it will be amazing, I’d love to do it. If you pop into the bar just next to the Gate you’ll be able to get some Cornet beer!

@RainySaturday former 2nd horn in training band here (the trading band was old me and a load of 8 year olds so that encouraged me to rapidly improve and move up 😆) I’m glad you’re enjoying it, although sometimes the hardest bit on 2nd horn is counting the bars rest!

Counting bars rest is a skill and takes concentration (well it does for me anyway!). I’m gradually improving especially as the music is becoming more familiar.

A few weeks ago I travelled quite a long way down the M4 to attend an open rehearsal with Cory band! Was so worth the journey. We did 3 pieces in 1.5 hours including Barnard Castle which I loved.

That's good to know! We're booked to have dinner at De Trompet!

I love Barnard Castle. There's so many pieces I love though!

I was a band mum.
Both children played in a first section band. Up til the ages of 16 and 18. Oh the places we visited! Skegness! Blackpool! All on a coach from Cornwall!
it was fun though. Mostly!

I have a soft spot for clog dance! I was lucky enough to be part of the band who was played in the world premiere of the stage version of brassed off!
