Historical or personal.

I was listening to the radio this morning and they had people calling in with stories of coincidences. Unfortunately didn't get to hear it all as a call came in so would love to hear if you have any.
I have read about the famous ones between Presidents Lincoln and Kennedy

A friend and her husband grew up in different countries (Australia and the U.K.). They met in Australia in their early 20s. One day they discussed their grandfathers who both served with the British Royal Navy in the 1940s and 50s. When they looked into it, it turned out they were on the same ship, at the same time. One was the ship’s dentist and the other the ship’s doctor; they would have worked closely together every day. They both died before knowing that their grandchildren, who had grown up on other sides of the world, would one day meet and marry.

My Dad has been married 4 times. My Mum was wife number 1, and he left and married wife number 2 when I was a toddler. She was a lovely stepmum, who my Dad sadly left when I was a teen.

When I was in my mid 30s, a friend of mine had a new boyfriend, and went with him to his aunt’s house for a family party. On the mantle piece was a photo of me as a teenager. It turns out the boyfriend’s aunt was my stepmum!

She was a lovely step mum!!

My aunt and uncle (siblings) have the same birthday (different years). Must be very annoying to share your birthday.

We once went on holiday to a village on the Welsh coast. We were walking round the local shop and bumped into DS's friend and parents who lived a few doors away from us (in Derbyshire). Couldn't even escape them on holiday. 😅

To celebrate his retirement, my dad went on a 'holiday of a lifetime' to the United States. When he came out of passport control at the airport, he bumped straight into someone he used to work with.

I've only ever lived in house numbers 6.

Three houses as a child, room in Halls of Residence, two shared houses as a student, two homes as an adult.

I used to have a boss who lived in a windmill, visited her house(/windmill) once.

Years later, met a guy through my OU course, who in his ice breaker said he lived in a windmill. Yep, it was the same one. Visited it again then!

I had a teacher who lived in a windmill

I lived in the same street as DH for 6 months when I was 14. Used to walk past his house everyday and have a vague memory of a group of lads sat outside in the summer. Our Dad’s played golf together for their respective employers’ teams and my mum used to be a Weight Watchers consultant and used to weight his mum every week.
Two of my children share a birthday several years apart.
I’d argue these aren’t really coincidences though:
The first is explained, to be expected even, when you grow up and stay in a small village.
The second is a bit of a coincidence but if you have sex in one month, there are only really 30 days when that baby might be born, and really, the window is even smaller given the inclination to induce labour when a week overdue. That said, mine were both spontaneous vaginal deliveries.

Had you kept in touch with her? I think it was lovely she still had your photo up.

I'm a supply teacher and chatting to the class TA on a job once, she started talking about her friend who was coming to stay for the weekend. Something she said made me realise this person was also an old friend of mine.

Also, lining up to board a flight to the Caribbean with my family, I get tapped on the shoulder. It was a friend from my old uni days also on the same flight with his family.

Here's another weird coincidence about Lincoln - Kennedy that isn't widely known:

Lincoln was born on the same day as Charles Darwin was born.

Kennedy died on the same day that Aldous Huxley died.

Aldous Huxley's grandfather was TH Huxley - the man known as 'Darwin's bulldog'

I was dog-sitting for some people I knew slightly (long story) in their very fancy new-build house while they were on holiday. I was flicking through the TV channels - nothing on. So I settled for Grand Designs. The house they were building was the one I was sitting in!

feelingalittlehorse · 28/02/2026 22:39

The lady, let’s call her Mary, who owned the horse kept in the stable next to mine met another British couple whilst on holiday to Hawaii. They got talking and Mary mentioned she did a a lot of horse riding. The wife of the other couple was lamenting how much she missed horse ownership herself. She’d had a terrible accident about 10 years before and had to sell her beloved horse but fortunately she was bought by a nice family for their teenage daughter, and she’d lost touch but did know whereabouts the horse was sold to.

Turns out that was my horse 🤯 Mary took her number and I kept in touch until said horse eventually was put to sleep.

My ds was born on the same day as my grandfather, and dh grandfather. I share a birthday with my mother in law.

NormasArse · 28/02/2026 22:55

My son and DIL have the same birthday, but 1 year apart. Talking with her mum, DIL was born at 20 past noon; my son was born at 20 past midnight!

I was once chaperoning some young people in a youth production of the ballet The Nutcracker. We were allocated to the boys' dressing room and my fellow chaperone and I needed a way to keep them occupied in the hour or so before the performance started. We turned on the tv on the wall in the dressing room to find The Simpsons - an episode which features the ballet The Nutcracker.
What are the chances?

😮How weird! There must be about 1000 Simpsons episodes by now! I hope it was a good omen for the performance going well!

My eldest daughter shares my grandfather's birthday. My youngest daughter shares my great grandfather's birthday.

I would have shared my grandmother's birthday but my mum didn't push hard enough 😁

Ex's daughter shares my mum's birthday now I come to think of it.
