Things your teens don’t know

I remember seeing threads like these over the years but now I have teens of my own wanted to resurrect the topic!

I have 15yo twins. They are wonderful, lively, bright, sporty, funny kids. But sometimes I’m astounded at stuff they don’t know 😂 They have two well educated parents and a wide circle of family and friends and a houseful of books etc etc.

The other day I commented that I was pleased at how well my supermarket hyacinths are doing. Both looked blank, neither of them knew what a hyacinth was, ok not the end of the world but there are other examples.

Semi light hearted, but I do feel I’ve only got a couple more years with them at home and I want to fill with them as much general and practical knowledge as possible!

What do your teens not know? Seem to remember teachers usually have a lot to say on these threads!

Dd was going to the pub with friend and friend's boyfriend. We asked if she was worried about being the gooseberry.

She'd never heard of it.

I mentioned AMW to my daughter yesterday. She had no idea who he was, or that he'd been stripped of his titles, arrested etc. to be fair, she never watches the news as she says it's all negative. I get that but it does make her very ignorant of world affairs.

I had no idea about the extended royal family until adult hood. I literally only saw queen. Queen mother. Charles Diana harry and William as a child,

I was very confused why the queen mother wasn't queen for the longest time as a child 🤣

I’m usually more amazed at what my teens do know, considering they don’t read or watch the news. Am always saying “How do you know that?!” (usually about 80s music)

Yes! My 19 year old DD just seems to know every song! It's quite rare I find one she hasn't heard before and can sing along to.

DD (18) listens to 80s music too. Car journeys are wonderful now.

@DownyEmerald Mine call this "thirdwheeling", which actually makes more sense than being a gooseberry!

Not a teen, but our 9 year old found out the hard way that you don't put insulated cups into the microwave to reheat your tea! I'd never thought to tell him that metal can't go in the microwave. 🙈

Tbf, plants and flowers are so boring when you’re young!

Yeah I think they call it being the third wheel now
