TLDR: told I have sleep apnoea by supplies company - feeling pissed off about it. Advice welcomed
Timeline:
Apr 2025: referred by GP to respiratory medicine at my local hospital (at my request), as I am 99% certain I have sleep apnoea
May 2025: sent machinery for sleep analysis and returned the next day
In the intervening months, I have rung and asked how much longer I have to wait, and was eventually told 52 weeks - fair enough.
Two weeks ago I called again to enquire as my 52 week deadline was 11 weeks away. The receptionist was confused and said I needed to do a sleep study and would not be seen until April at the earliest. I pointed out that I had done a sleep study nearly a year ago. At this point, she then asked me to hold while she spoke to a colleague. She then came back on the line and offered me a telephone appointment for next week. (As you can imagine, this gave me pause for thought as to why I was offered an appointment much sooner.)
So far, this is typical of my interactions with the NHS over the last several years.
But, yesterday I came home and found a letter on my doormat from a medical supplies company, telling me that from now on they would be providing me with masks, tubing etc for my equipment (i.e. CPAP machine).
I get that this might seem relatively minor, but to have my details shared with an external provider when I haven’t been given a diagnosis by a HCP is pretty unprofessional.
In my shoes, WWYD?
