Living near a prison

So my boyfriend is working in construction near a prison (Pentonville). We’ve been out a few times near there and walked past houses that were opposite the side wall of the prison. The area seems a bit student residences and maybe council flats opposite.

Anyway, would you live near a prison or not? If not why not? Would it be cheaper to live here?

the only other prisons I’ve seen are Wandsworth (a bit bleak area), and Brixton, ok part of Brixton not the nicest part.

Actually through the prison? How could you do that?

The houses backed right up to the prison. I don’t remember exact details, it’s more than 30 years, but there were fences you could get through to walk around the edge of the yard and then come out front to cross towards the village. One of her parents worked at the prison. We used to see inmates gardening. It’s still well known for prisoners absconding by just walking out 😆

I guess occasionally some may escape.

If they escaped they're likely to get as far away from the prison as quickly as possible, not hang around the neighborhood.

Don’t you have opinions or just your boyfriend?

I live about a mile from a prison. I don’t think about it from one month to the next.

I remember hearing that siren when my parents lived in the area. Terrifying as they were near the woods where I always imagined prisoners would head.
Apparently they were decommissioned and last used in 1993.

It was tested every Monday at 10am until 2018. There were 14 sirens spread all around the area. All gone now. I don't have an issue with living near it.

There are two stations the tube and the national rail one.

Caledonian Road station is a Tube station

Caledonian Road & Barnsbury station is an overground train station

So yes, my bus stopped outside Caledonian Road station a minute after it had stopped at Pentonville Prison bus stop. Where I failed to take a photo to illustrate the funny (I thought) coincidence.
