Reminder not to talk to calls from your bank!

As I have been silly tonight, and am usually quite vigilant.
Had a notification via my bank app of a declined payment due to lack of funds (payment requested was 20, I had only 18 in current account).
Straight away I went on the bank app and cancelled my card and a new one being sent out.
No less than 5 minutes later, had a call from said banks fraud department due to the payment being based in up north, when I'm down south ?
Stupid me, fell hook line and sinker and genuinely thought this was someone from my bank. To cut a long story short, he asked me mainly about my balances, how many spaces do I have, what's the balance in them, then what other banks do I have in the UK and what's the current balance in them. When I confirmed the most in my spaces (pots) was about 200 , and 50 in my other banks current account ( we have just had lots of spending this month), as soon as I said I had 50 in my other current account the line went dead. Even at this point I thought oh he'll call back. It wasn't until I logged into my bank with the banner at the top "we've never called you" I then hurriedly called them back to confirm it was indeed a scam call.
Luckily no account information was given, fraudster was only interested at that point of balances.

Please please remember to be vigilant ! I am usually and am disappointed in how quickly I was duped.

I get that some scams can be quite sophisticated but that really wasn’t… why on earth would your bank ask about accounts and balances you have with other banks?

@SargeMarge looking back on it with hindsight it sounds so naive but in the moment I didn't question it. It was the first time I'd ever had a call like that but will definitely be more vigilant in the future

My bank has never called. When there was fraud on my card, they messaged through the app. I'd be highly suspicious about calls from banks.

Sorry that happened, though.

I think what duped me was that the call came literally after the declined payment, and that it was not a random call.
Obvious when I look back on it that it was part of the scam, but at the time I fell for it
