Is Nottingham a nice place to visit

I know you shouldn’t judge a town on one event but must admit the attack on two students and the caretaker has tainted my view. My DH went to the university and would like us to visit with our dc but I am nervous.
He would like to travel by train to Beeston and walk to the university park and around it and neighbouring Wollaton.
I have also heard that gun crime and drugs related crimes have increased since he was there.
So my question is whether you would feel comfortable with his plans or if there are bits we should avoid using Ubers?

University park is beautiful, Beeston is a great town, lots of little independent shops and cafes. You could also visit Attenborough nature reserve which is stunning. Wollaton park is great too.
Nottingham city centre has all the normal shops and the castle is a great visitor attraction.
come to Nottingham I’m sure you will have a great day.

The tram is ok. It does go into some dodgy areas. But the beeston end is fine. I prefer buses as they go a more direct route and are cheaper.

@MissCooCooMcgoo I was B&B in Leicester but lived in Lenton for 22 years. Lenton is a great place to live. But I agree that the city centre had gone down hill. Leicester and Derby have had money spent on them. Nottingham hasn’t. I didn’t mind Nottingham until I discovered Liverpool! I’d move there in a heartbeat if I could.

What so awful about the tram?

Nothing much, it's mostly fine. Because people can get on without paying you do sometimes get a bit of conflict or odd characters using it. There are very frequent checks though, most normal people do pay for tickets obviously.

Is there anyone on this thread who's actually born and bread nottnm? Those of us who are can absolutely have the opinion that the city center is now a shit hole... Because it is!

Same as the majority of cities. Anyone been Birmingham recently 😳

OP, use public transport, don't drive everywhere there's no need. Traffic is shocking at the moment roadworks everywhere 10x the time.

The tra is fine, it's just like the tube but easier. Busses are plentiful and super easy to navigate.

I was born and bred in Bestwood Park. I don’t think the city centre is a shithole but then again I live near Ilkeston now. Grin

Beeston and Wollaton are both lovely areas. Beeston town centre has lots of charity shops if you like a browse and some great independent cafes. There’s also Suda deli in nearby Bramcote.

But that’s just public transport. I use the tram everyday to get to work. It can be a bit dodge at night but so can the bus.

They have just reported that the NCT offices in market square are having to be moved because of literal shit.

Ah, I thought you were asking as someone who didn't use it.

No quite the opposite! The only objection I have to the tram is the price. I can park for a couple of hours in town for cheaper.

The other annoying thing about the tram are the people still moaning on Facebook that it was built. Get over it. 😂🤦🏻‍♀️
