I have to go and have a big molar filling replaced this afternoon. I mean the tooth is more filling than tooth I reckon, and im just getting myself into a state. During my last filling (albeit about 18 years ago) the dentist hit some sort of nerve when injecting the anaesthetic and I nearly shot through the roof, so im even frightened of the injections, let alone the drilling. Please tell me to get a grip! Im seriously considering cancelling but that's just delaying the inevitable and might cost me my NHS place. Argh

Could you get someone to hold your hand?
I had a filling in my molar recently and it was fine. I never have anaesthetic for fillings and I think that makes the dentist more careful so maybe you could try that if you don't like injections anyway. Remember to breathe and imagine yourself walking away happy afterwards.

Breathe. Tell the dentist you are anxious and why. Try not to tense up, easier said than done I know but it will help. I had similar work to a back tooth a few months ago so sympathise. I got through the worst bit by closing my eyes and doing very slow breathing. And telling myself it would be over soon.
