Just over 4 years. In that time we finished university, got engaged and married, relocated and started new jobs. It was a busy time!

We talked about it before we got married... DH suggested we start trying a few months before our wedding (when we'd been together for 4 years) but I said no way, because I had no idea how pregnancy would make me feel. We started trying 2.5 months after the wedding and I think it actually worked absolutely first time

UnusualCanoe · 28/01/2026 00:12

Together 15 months before having the conversation to start trying, followed by another year and a half of IVF before actually getting pregnant, during which time we got married. Been together 11 years now

One year. Far too soon.

enniso · 28/01/2026 00:20

8 years. 4 years to know we wanted to spend the rest of our lives together, then got married. Then another 3/4 years before we knew it was the right time to try to have children.

Neither of us were particularly young at those stages - we wanted to take both decisions slowly and cautiously.

AcidicTrifle · 28/01/2026 00:24

19 years, married for 16. In hospital after DC born the mums had this conversation at breakfast. Jaws visibly dropped and you could almost see the cogs turning as some did the 'how old is she?' maths.

Icequeen01 · 28/01/2026 00:32

Together 21 years, married for 15 years. I was 17 when we met and he was almost 16. I didn’t have my DS until I was 38. I always said I didn’t want children but then suddenly changed my mind when I was 37 almost 38. Luckily I fell pregnant straightaway.

Same, I came off the Combined Pill, ignoring the advice to let yourself have a couple of "natural" periods before TTC. I hate condoms so we just got on with it. I was expecting it take a few months, so awaited my first pill free period in three years, but no, there was none because I'd conceived straightaway. She's 26 now. You don't expect it to happen that quickly. But then, I conceived DC2 while taking the mini pill, seven months after DD was born, so I was obviously highly fertile at the time.
