Well it’s finally happened. There was an attempt to defraud me!

I’m actually stunned. Within the space of an hour I’ve seen tens of transactions for uber and uber eats come up on my phone for approval. My notifications were going off like crazy. Of course no approval from me because it wasn’t me! Froze the card immediately but they kept trying (pops up as declined because card was frozen).

I’m quite tech savvy - I never click on links, I don’t give out my details, I don’t even use my card details only Apple Pay for this exact reason. I had to AI how the hell this happened and it could have potentially been a bot that goes through thousands of combinations of numbers until they get a match and then use uber to test it as it has very low authentication mechanism for transactions. Then they move on to bigger stuff.

Well thank god for my bank! I stood on the tube frantically clicking ‘DO NOT APPROVE ITS NOT ME’

I’m actually stunned that on a post where people are sharing their experiences of fraud someone would come on and post a fraudulent link. I’ve reported this.

I reported it too, several hours ago! Sadly it doesn't surprise me, there isn't any low to which scammers won't stoop.
Reading through people's experiences on this thread is so angersome. The psyche of these scammers is beyond comprehension, like how anyone could be okay with the knowledge that they're the absolute scum of the earth 🤷‍♀️

You want to see what I see at work. As part of my role I have been going through cases where our customers are the fraudsters, it's an eye opener. It's amazing as well how many fall for well known scams but the scammers are so convincing.

Agreed, scammers are definitely the scum of the earth. I’m feeling angry too, though some of it is directed at myself, especially that I clicked on a dubious link!

I’m also angry with Nationwide, not only did they approve a loan when there was a scammer around, but they didn’t freeze the account. Initially they just cancelled my card, but not my DH’s. Neither of us have ever taken a bank loan out in our lives, apart from a mortgage!

I hate the feeling of being a victim of crime again, as a survivor of CSA. It made me feel helpless once again; I had to remind myself that I was no longer a helpless child. Plus, once again there will be no redress, as the police told me that they don’t have enough to find the scammer.

No wonder such crimes are so rife, the scammers know that they will get away with it.
