Should I have replied to this message (or right to wait)?

first world problem here. I've been chatting to this guy, we've both quite descriptive and long with our messages and it's yet to be established if it's going to be a friends or a more than thing. I'm not sure yet. His last message was very long and then my last message to him was also really long. We probably need to reign it in!

So I sent mine Friday morning and at lunchtime he replied a bit then said I'm at work right now and I want to give your thoughtful message the proper time and effort it deserves, so I'll do that at the weekend. I liked the message with a smiley face.

Anyway Sunday night he still hasn't replied properly and I'm now overthinking wondering if I should've acknowledged his shorter message properly? I thought in this case he's clearly busy so just a like is fine but maybe it was rude.

Do you know this man at all - have you met him?

Fatiguedwithlife · 25/01/2026 19:34

No, you did the right thing

If you liked his message, that's not rude.

If he's interested, he'll message you. There could be all sorts of stuff going on from seeing other women to having a busy weekend with friends.

It's probably a good reminder to not invest too much until you've met up in real.life.

Thanks everyone - I think you're right!

I think if he waits much longer it'll be he's cooling off. I'll just wait.

I'm not very invested yet thankfully although I like him.

He hasn't been in touch today so I reckon he's ghosting.

Why he bothered to message on Friday to say let me know he was snowed under at work but will take the time at the weekend then disappear, I'll never know. It felt like a respectful holding message.

Nowt as queer as menfolk eh? Next I suppose!
