Do you hate stalk anyone on social media?

Festoo · 21/01/2026 16:39

I mean, do you regularly check the socials of someone you hate just because their socials confirm why it is you hate them?

Is this 'a thing'?

DH does it with a couple of family members. I do it with two people at work. I'm not signed up to any social media, just what's publicly available.

I thought it was something that everyone most people did but I told a mate about it and she was baffled. And now thinks I'm absolutely mental.

My brother in law. He blocked me but I view through my husbands profile.

Coffeeishot · 21/01/2026 16:47

It isn't something you admit or people will think you are mental 😂 i do yes i was frozen out of a friendship group so i occasionaly look at the one who stopped inviting me to things, so i can "sneer" but they have a nice life and not missing me at all !

Boomer55 · 21/01/2026 16:48

No - I’ve got better things to do. 🙄

FlatErica · 21/01/2026 16:53

No, it wouldn’t even occur to me to do it. Not because I’m particularly virtuous, but because once someone hurts me to the extent that I “hate“ them, I completely cut them out of my life.

Endofyear · 21/01/2026 19:14

Nope, why would you want to look at something that's just going to annoy you? I have no interest in the lives of people I don't like.

FatCatPyjamas · 21/01/2026 19:19

No way. Don't you just get yourself all worked up looking at them?

This.

I find it easy to cut people out of my life who are toxic etc., but I’m quite self-absorbed / have a busy life, I literally just forget about them? They never come to mind in the first place for me to think of stalking them online.

Only my butcher who swore blind once he put my sunday joint in bag but it wasn't there when I got home. I also have proof his scales are weighing things 10% heavier then stated.
His social media is public and he's just bought a Rolex and a hair transplant and I can't help thinking I've paid for it.

Arlanymor · 21/01/2026 20:44

No, I don't think it's mentally healthy.

Beekman · 21/01/2026 20:47

Yeah I do. One cunty Mumsnetter who is as appalling on Twitter as they were here. I look every couple of months or so, so hardly obsessive.

Flomingho · 21/01/2026 20:50

Nope, if I don't like a person I have no interest in them so the last thing I would want to do is look at their social media.

gamerchick · 21/01/2026 20:50

No, I hate feeling irritated and annoyed with someone. Once they've gone they're gone. I don't see the point of seeking them out just to feel annoyed all over again.

Idontknowhatnametochoose · 21/01/2026 20:53

Definitely not. I.like to look at stuff that benefits me in a positive way.

Berlinlover · 21/01/2026 20:58

There are a handful of people in this world that I despise and I have blocked them on social media.

This is like the start of a Sunday night drama.

Oh no 😂

Festoo · 22/01/2026 08:29

Maybe 'hate' is too strong of a word.

I think these people are pillocks and their social media fascinates me because their pillock-ness is laid absolutely bare. It's like they have no idea how they come across to people outside of their own little bubble.

I don't think it really affects me in a negative away.

Ooh I bet I can guess who the c piece is. Vile vile vile woman

HundredsandHundreds · 22/01/2026 08:33

No. I think it’s really weird that you do. If you dislike someone for good reason, why do you need to remind yourself periodically of why?

Thirdchildjoy · 22/01/2026 08:48

No. I focus on positives so that my life is happy. No wonder people's mental health is shot if they put energy into legacy hatred.

Ineedanewsofa · 22/01/2026 08:49

No, my social media feeds are all people/things that give me a little bit of a brain break. I follow nothing and no one that can raise my blood pressure in any way, if that changes I unfollow, no drama.
No idea why anyone would ‘hate follow’! Keeping an eye on a family member who might post lies directly about me I understand a little bit more but fortunately I don’t have any of those

BooksandCats123 · 22/01/2026 08:51

No, I used to with an ex boyfriend but finally had a word with myself.

This is where social media really adds value to one’s life rather than encouraging us to spend spend spend. You sound good and vengeful so I’m sure he’ll get his comeuppance. Have you considered placing a curse on him? I hope his new hair falls out 🥩
